I'm going to need a company name.

Now that I'm in my post-thesis life, I have more time to examine options and review some earlier plans. One of which is becoming a self-employed sub-contractor. Basically instead of handing in my time card at the end of the week, I hand in a bill. It's the easiest way to make more money without having to ask for a ( Read more... )

Of course... I'm the one with the word of caution... *sigh. Don't get me wrong. I think it's a marvelous idea. Just don't fool with the taxman. It's really hard when you see all of the money coming in to then turn a HUGE percentage of it over to /the govrnment/. Make certain to always put more away for taxes than you expect to need. Then in April, once your taxes are filed (on time no less!) you will have extra money for that long deserved vacation to Cambridge. hheen... hheeennn.

Of course, this from the accountant. Due to Mark-economics, I normally overestimate expenses and underestimate income. Somehow it all works out in the end. I'm sure this enterprise will require hither-untold of financial powers of restraint on my part, but I think I can do it. Thanks for the words of caution.

Be careful. If you do go ahead, I recommend "Higher Education, Inc."

The only thing I fear is Math.

I think my days of carpentry are numbered, but I may as well make more money and aquire business experience while I'm at it. Semper profice, that's what I say.

One thing I don't know yet is how this affects my apprentiship. Another thing is what other regerstry type activities will cost, but they shouldn't be much (I think if it's just my name, there is no cost; anything else is $60). Other than that, I don't need any start up capital, and I have my uncle as my main client so income is as assured as it was before.

I was also thinking "More Money Means More Human Carpentry" or "Dead Carpenter's Society"
