Thanksgiving weekend drive-by

Dec 01, 2008 13:58

Baking frenzy on Wednesday night - vegan apple cider cupcakes [1] and chocolate cake. Woke up at 7 on Thursday to finish the cupcake icing and cake frosting. Left at 9:30 for NJ and Fred's 'rents (alas, did not get to run in the Gobble Gobble Gobble 4 miler that morning), and we managed to make it there by 2:30. Hung out for a few hours before ( Read more... )

Fred was a pretty good sport about the whole thing, but he didn't buy my argument that trying perfume is like sipping cocktails for the nose.

I believe it after having experienced the perfume hangover a little while later...

Yes. I have one today, too.

It's intriguing, though, to try to identify different components. You get better at it with time. One of the perfume reviewing websites recommended several perfumes that exhibit each of the main components (like chypre, vetiver, musk, etc.) - these perfumes are almost single-note, so you can train your nose to distinguish them.

I'm not loving the current AP offerings either, hoping that as I become more able to afford more often, it will improve. ;)

Parfum de Thérèse is really gorgeous! I can see it on you. I also, surprisingly, found Iris Poudre lovely on my skin. I smelled the "absinthe" scent on a tester a while back and although it seemed interesting, it certainly was not as anise-heavy as I'd expected. Maybe it's just wormwood flower that they are using, and they are playing up the Absinthe angle because "oooh, exotic madness-inducing elixir!". :p

I LOVE the Henks! Good call.

I'll be grabbing a pair of the late-night tickets tonight at ES, so we will see you then!

I'm trying the P de T today, and I really, really like it. It seemed very hyper at first, but it's mellowed out to something slightly outside my normal perfume comfort-zone (this is a good thing). It reminds me of a more complex version of Calyx.

When I tossed everything in the laundry this morning, I sniffed the sweater sleeve that had been exposed to the Nasomatto Absinthe. And you know what - it smelled very nice. But once it actually gets on my skin - rancid. So sad.

See you Thursday, I hope!

We so HAVE to plan a shopping day!!!! I want to do the perfume thing with you--I've used the same perfume for something like 8 years--I mean, I still love it on me and haven't found anything better, but I'd like to have the option for some variety.

It all sounds so lovely...

Right now I have a ton of samples, so next time we meet up for dinner/brunch/whatever I will bring them for you to try! Speaking of which, I'm free every weeknight this week, save Thursday, and every weeknight next week, save Wednesday. If I had gotten enough sleep last night, I would have suggested Ceremony/Down With Tempo tonight.

But yes we need to do a shopping trip. A Sunday would probably work best, since I can't get back from work in time to get to Barneys, which closes at 7PM.

Your weekend sounded cool! I need to get a new cologne. I am rather tired of the ones I have right now. Purring cat laying on a chest is always nice. Our Louie sat on my lap right when I got home after running. For some reason she loves being near me after I am all sweaty (ok that is gross but it is true). Anyways she was doing the paw kneading thing right on my leg which was the exact leg that was sore. She was performing reiki on me. Interesting enough my leg felt a lot better after that as well.
