Hey guys, have fun with that modplot? Sure you did. Bet you're looking forward to a little peace and qui- yeah that's not happening. BECAUSE GUESS WHAT. Little miss bitchy face here is finally getting her chip out. And because someone as melodramatic as Kaoru couldn't possibly let this go without making a scene, you guys get another ~chip event~ 8Db
Okay, first of all; I'm really, REALLY sorry about forcing you guys to read all this TL;DR but Kaoru's canon is frustratingly vague and specific at the same time, so an explanation of what she is is a kinda necessary. If you want even more explanation, an overview of the factions mentioned can be found
here along with her permission post. If you're too lazy to read that, WHATEVER, you don't need to. This post should explain everything you'll need to know for the event anyway; if you have any questions please PLEASE ask! I'm a terrible rambly thing, so I might have missed something obvious or not-so-obvious.
The Explanation - Mindbreakers
In Juvenile Orion, there are several different factions of people with powers that have been warring between themselves for thousands of years. These power-users range from psychics to wizards to mythological creatures to aliens to even GODS. They vary wildly in strength and ability and form, but all the factions have one common enemy that they fear more than any of the others. Mindbreakers- powerful, independent psychics with the specific and unique ability to completely bypass and overtake all the other superhumans, gaining near-complete control of their powers and minds. Mindbreakers do exactly what their name implies, creating a deep mental and emotional bond between the power-user and themselves, and essentially turning them into loyal mindslaves. Those who have been mindbroken are driven to follow their Mindbreaker's orders, giving up their lives for them without question and doing everything in their power to please and protect their new master. Exactly how they do what they do is not known, but they do it very, very well. All of the factions are extremely wary of them and regard them as highly dangerous. If a Mindbreaker is present on one side of a battle, it's a pretty safe bet to put your money on those guys.
Imagine that a person with powers has a little dial controlling how strong they are. Once a Mindbreaker has taken control over a power-user, they can reach directly to that dial and spin it any way they want. They can make you weak or strong; they can shut your power off and leave you helpless with just a thought, or they can crank that sucker up to eleven and unleash heights of power you never knew you had. This is what makes Mindbreakers so dangerous; they can surround themselves with completely loyal followers that are vastly stronger than they would ever be on their own.
Now that the boring stuff is out of the way. ON TO THE EVENT. Unlike the last several events we've had, Kaoru's not going to run off somewhere once she gets her chip out; she's going to stay right where she is. That should be fine, since she has no destructive powers. But come on, this is Discedo.
Part 1 - People With Powers:
Kaoru has heaps and heaps of issues like the giant emo kid she is. She has been without her powers and helpless for, in her mind, far too long. She has lost a lot of people close to her recently and is desperate to have control again, in more ways than one. Once the chip is removed she intends to mindbreak her remaining CR because she believes she can overrule the scientists' will and keep anyone else from leaving her that way.
Of course as we all know, her powers will be on the fritz at first. Her intense desire to control everything around her will combine with her unstable, spiking power levels in the most predictable way: Kaoru will lose control and accidentally mindbreak the entire city (or rather, whoever wants to participate). Kaoru is strong but definitely not that strong; there's no way she can regulate dozens of people's abilities at the same time. Whoever is now connected with her will be subject to her wildly shifting moods and whims in addition her still fluctuating powers. The upshot of this is that people with powers who choose to be mindbroken for the event will all have their abilities go out of whack.
Basically, it will be like everyone is going through a chip event at the same time. 8D
Part 2 - People Without Powers:
Can't let the superpowered characters get all the fun, right? Let's get the normal people in here too. Kaoru is fully capable of mind controlling regular people as well. During the event, people without powers can temporarily be controlled, acting upon Kaoru's unconscious desires. This can mean a lot of things; Kaoru is a fairly violent, paranoid person, but she's also desperate and lonely. Characters can find themselves attacking others or themselves; tearing up rooms and destroying furniture is also encouraged! Under Kaoru's control, people are fully aware of what they're doing and will likely be freaking out and apologizing as they turn on their friends, but they won't be able to stop their actions. As well, they might, possibly, pick up on some emotional feedback from Kaoru; in this case they would feel a general sense of desperation and an obsessive need to keep people in sight at all times.
Will people know who's behind this? They can if you want them too. This is an additional way we can have fun with the event: an important part of Mindbreaking is the mental/emotional connection between the Mindbreaker and...Mindbreakee(?). Because of the unstable way the connections were made, some people can experience a closer bond with Kaoru than others. In this case your character will
feel an irresistible urge to find her and be near her. If you want to play with this, let me know! You don't have to know Kaoru beforehand and both people with and without powers can be affected.
End of the event: Kaoru will, of course, be freaking out this whole time, as she receives feedback from all the mindlinks that were created, in addition to suddenly being able to sense everybody in the city and all that that entails, in ADDITION to the fact that she is now more out of control than ever. The event will end once her powers have settled enough that her mind will be like "aw hell no" and violently reject the connections, severing the links all at once. Everyone will get a killer headache for a few seconds, feel a sense of loss, and it will be over. The end!
Timeline: This will be happening next week and will go from Tuesday the 21st to Friday the 24th. The event will begin with a post from Kaoru and probably end the same way.
Sob holy shit this post is huge I'm so so sorry...seriously, just ask questions if you need to. I probably missed something. Suggestions are also welcome!
P.S. Again, Kaoru's permission post for using her powers after the event is
here. If you could fill that out it would be super helpful! Ignore the comments that are already there, I'm using the same post for another game.
