Thank you for this. I enjoy reading show reviews like this, especially of bands I really like.

I guess I do feel a bit guilty for being 6'3", but I recently drove 4 hours to see the Decemberists.

I found myself in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by dude bros (who out-bulked the present hipsters). They really, really bummed me out. They ridiculed the opening band. I forget their name, but they were really quiet british folk type of outfit, and the bros were just not having it. I actually found myself getting uncomfortable.

I had seen the Decemberists before in San Francisco, and that show had a better atmosphere.

ooh, and I plan to share your entry with my 5'3" girlfriend. I'm sure she will appreciate!

I get a bit obsessed with reading show reviews sometimes. The Internet is amazing in how well it can feed my habit. I've read dozens of accounts of this Decemberists tour; it's just so interesting to read the little variations on what is essentially the same experience.

Your girlfriend has 2 inches on me, but I'm sure she shares much of the same pain! I always wear high-heeled boots to concerts. It helps a little.

I empathize with being a short GA-concert goer.

Last October, I was almost stampeded over at the Variety Playhouse for Lindsey Buckingham's show. Some of the people at the beginning of the line had been there since 8am, and I wasn't very far back and was in line at 5 pm. Crazy.

Ack! I vaguely fear a stampede when the doors open at tomorrow's show.

Last time I was at the Variety Playhouse, a dude stepped on me. Actually, collided with me first, and then stepped on me. He'd been in front of me for the entire show, and when he turned around after crushing my foot, he said, "Oh! I had no idea there was anyone behind me." Yep.

I went to college in Greenville and my Sociology of Religion class took a field trip to tour BJU to see what it was like. There is a parlor where students go on dates so they can be chaperoned. I heard that BJU has the second largest collection of sacred art in the world after the Louvre so that was interesting to see.

I understand your short-kid-at-a-concert pain. However, my ex-boyfriend was 6'6", and I swear he had it even worse than us. At least there are a few moments at every concert where I can see the stage from where I'm standing, and it's completely guilt-free -- but when you're 6'6", there is NOWHERE in the crowd you can stand (except the very back) where people don't get mad at you and tell you to move. He loves music, but doesn't go to concerts much for that reason.

Yay, you're finally coming to Seattle. I hope you enjoy yourself. Definitely have Adam visit the first ever Starbucks!

Thanks! I can't wait for the trip. There are going to be many coffee-related happenings while we're there, I can tell you that. :)
