it is funny that you mention speak. i remember walking past the YA section in border's and seeing that particular book. the cover caught my eye and i picked it up and started reading it. i was hooked on it, but for whatever reason, i didn't buy it.

this was years ago.

i've been meaning to read it and i haven't. maybe i will look for it in the library and purchase a copy now. :)

Get it! It is really wonderful. Funny and heartbreaking all at once. Definitely still one of my favorite YA books out of all the ones I've read in the year since I became obsessed with the YA section again.

i really like YA fiction. my library seems to have a really shoddy selection, though. =/

here's a suggestion for one of your five lists...five favorite YA books! :)

The library near my old apartment had a fantastic selection of YA fiction. I recently checked out the library near my new place -- same county, same library system -- and the selection was lousy. It was mostly stuff I'd read when I was was a YA, back in the early - mid 90s. Bah.

Will definitely do a list of my favorite YA books at some point. I'm going to wait until I read a few more novels that I've heard good things about... I'm thinking one or more of them might make the list.

I like this idea of posting about five things every once in a while. I especially enjoyed your #5, about the Faulkner documentary.
