Road trip day one: Wellington to Hanmer: April 14

Tuesday morning we were up bright and early, with the shuttle arriving to pick us up to go to the ferry terminal at about 7am. Early mornings are really not my thing, but I didn't complain too much! Got out of the house without too much drama, and got down to the ferry terminal, where we had agreed to meet Skyring. We waited around for a few

I had visions of Hanmer Springs being a tiny place with a hostel and some rock pools. Boy, was I wrong! Lucky Kevin was organised - a handy man to have around, or maybe it's just that I'm always running on random. I had the details on the laptop, somewhere, so we would have found the place. Eventually.

Once we left Wellington, it was the perfect clear sunny autumn day on a fantastic road with a bunch of great friends and a really cool hostel to sleep in. Heaven must be like this.

R and I are going to Hanmer Springs for a couple of nights with my parents in early July.

Hehe!! I can recommend Hanmer Backpackers!! And the pools are cool (colloquially :p)

Great trip, great pics! Did you ever read The Mermaid Chair? A lot of people dislike it, but I found it absorbing, only wish I'd read it before going to Charleston.
