Yeah. Episode 1 gave me mixed feelings. I don't know if it was worth $20, but it was definitely worth the $8 i paid for it on sale. It took me about 4-5 hours on the hardest difficulty (which wasn't terribly challenging actually). It wasn't very innovative beyond Half-Life 2 itself, but my only hope going into the game was that it would give me more HL2 action. It did, so I was satisfied to that degree.
Now, all this being said, Episode 1 was necessary to set up Episode 2, which looks to be mindblowing. I'm not spoiling anything here, really: Episode 2 is when you start the fight to reclaim earth, and Episode 1 is the precursor. So any deficiencies in the plot and action in Episode 1 are probably related to its place in the story.
Beyond that, Episode 2 comes bundled with the long-awaited Team Fortress 2. The original Team Fortress ate up a good bit of my first semester of college

If you love HL2 for the content and don't expect alot of new innovation, yes, you will like EP1. It is more HL. And there's no damn boat or go-cart. thank goodness.
EP2 is supposed to have several vehicles... i hope these don't make me motion-sick.
Yeah, i'm interested to see what sort of lame plot they give it. It is admittedly gimmicky, but i think this gimmick will be entertaining enough to make it work.
