FROZEN [Spoilers], Anna/Hans

Hans is genuinely every bit as bad as he is in canon...except for one thing. He really did fall in love with Anna and, as a result, turned his entire near-sociopathic, manipulative, generally diabolical brain towards the task of making Anna happy at any cost. If that means sparing Elsa and not becoming king, so be it. If it means covertly assassinating Elsa's political opponents so Anna isn't worried that her sister might be deposed, fair enough. He manages to keep this from Anna the whole time. Bonus points for: - He really is that adorkable - but still evil.

Hans hears that the gates were finally opening at Arendelle. His brothers do not want to have to go to a small kingdom, an isolationist little spit of land in the midst of a great cold swathe, but Hans can see a flicker of opportunity amidst it all. The word finally catches his attention. It means change, means difference, means... well, opportunityIt is not until he airily agrees to go that his brothers start to eye him cautiously. They, at least, have learnt that he does not do foolish or whimsical things

When he proposes, to his own surprise he actually means it. Not only that, but the look of delight on Anna's face seems to mean that she is happy. Happy too, Hans realises, because it has been a long time since he has felt happiness spreading through his chest like the warmth of a hot meal after cold, but it is undoubtedly the sensation he feels now

It stops. Suddenly, like a blow, the snow still hanging in the deathly-still air. Hans wipes the frost from his eyes to see Anna a frozen statue, Elsa clinging to her neck, the Duke of Weselton on his ass on the snow looking in bewilderment at his shattered sword

A/N: Hahaha what is counting.
Their first child is a son. In the Southern Isles, it is common to use family names, and an unspoken rule that the father is the one who names the child. But Hans has nobody whom he needs to flatter, and nobody that he particularly wants to remember.

This is fantastic! I told you you were talented. :) I love the mention of Snow White and the idea of Hans planning on taking out any opponents so casually. This was great; thanks for gracing us with it! :)

*blushes* Oh man, thank you so much! I thought the idea of evil-in-love Hans was almost cute, in its own way (blame my recent watching of Hannibal, I suspect) and what the hell, Grimhilde was a villain anyway.
Wow! I wasn't really expecting a fill at all, but this was better than I could ever have hoped for - and by you! Please tell me if I'm being creepy, but I loved Somnium and between that and your other work you're one of my favourite authors on the meme. This is beautiful, and so well-realised - everything I could have wished for and more. Thank you so much.
Ahhh, you're still here! Fantastic! And no, it's not creepy, I am totally flattered that you like my other stuff as well. The idea of Hans being evil and in love is fantastic, and I think it's a great way of putting together what we see of him. Thank you for writing this prompt!

I cannot believe I actually read this (I don't really have any plans to see Frozen bc the fandom's turned me off, long story short), but the prompt was made of gold and I really enjoy your writing so I gave it a shot. Holy fucking shit I am in so much love and just plain need more in my liiiiife. *flails*

I... actually had some trepidation about going to see Frozen, but man, once I saw it, it blew me away. As can probably be seen in how much I've written for it *vague wave*. I'm really glad that you enjoyed this, and that you enjoyed the film as well for that matter~

oohhhhh i love your writing so much!!
the elegance of the prose in this one, each word seemed chosen so carefully, it was so polished and perfect -- exactly how hans' narration should be, especially with the themes you were going for in this fic!
my favourite thing, though, is the worldbuilding -- i truly felt like the southern isles itself was a character. very very cool.
and i really liked this prompt because i do feel that while hans is deep down a bad guy and his ambition obviously mattered more to him than anna, he did truly like her, or at least find her entertaining. i still like the idea of them together, since she's so naive and innocent and he's...you know, him.

Oh man, thank you so much! I can't take credit for the idea of the Southern Isles as being this place of political intrigue - I figured it made sense from how Hans was the more politically aware figure, but I've seen it in various other fanfictions as well, taking to much greater extremes.
I think that entertaining is about the right word for how Hans views Anna in the films. Along with words like "useful" and probably "gullible". But I don't think he actually disliked her or anything of that sort. It took a surprisingly small tweak to actually make him like her. Just her, and any children they have, okay and maybe Elsa. Arendelle is good for Hans, apparently.

He looks to Anna, and smiles.
"What do you want to call him?"
