Important: Teetering On The Edge

As things stand I have one band provisionally willing to play at the ball, Swarf. Synthpop rather than trad goth but I suspect it should still work. Dress code remains the same, slightly looser perhaps, but the surreality could prove interesting. Enquiries are being made for a second band, but my own contacts and cold-calling haven't provided many ( Read more... )

Given that you already clash with one big alternative event, and since I'd like to attend this, perhaps a postponement would be a good idea? Give you more time to get things in order, sell tickets in advance, promote...

I think it would be better to postpone it. To sell 300 tickets, we'll need time, effort and to be able to give people lots of notice. Going for August means losing the Infest crowd, and people generally will be on holiday, or have plans for the long weekend.

I don't mean to be negative. It's a fabulous idea, and people in general are very taken with it. I just think it's worth doing this properly, and making it a major success, rather than a mad scramble at the last minute to cover the costs.

My gut reaction is to say "no, go ahead and do it now", but I am painfully aware that I don't have time to help you out either.

You've had a lot going on recently, so no one will think badly of you if you do want to postpone or cancel.

Alternatively, and I have *no* idea what they're like or what kind of music it is, I can make enquiries about getting one of the bands that will be playing at the B Movie special, if you want.

Thanks for the offers to chase bands; I think I shall go with rescheduling and bands that I know a little about :)

I would like to go, but that weekend is a problem for me & J.

If I were you, I would postpone it until spring (don't book it on or close to WGW) and that should give you time to find other bands and to promote it sufficiently to get the numbers you need.

I know of another band or two who would do it, but most likely not at this short notice. e-mail me if you want band info.

I'd say postpone it. You're already stressed about it and you're not going to have a lot more free time over the next couple of weeks, are you?

Do it next spring instead when there's not anything else going on and you have more time to prepare.
