check out anything by chuck palahniuk - he's the guy who wrote fight club, but i actually haven't read that one yet. i read invisible monsters and i'm in the middle of survivor - both really well written, real mind-fucks (if you're into that kinda thing).

oh and i know you're into the musician poe - well her brother (mark z. danielewski) has a book called house of leaves which is definitely worth checking out. it goes with poe's album haunted, and both the book and the album were inspired by their father's death.

ok more than you ever needed to know, but hey, you asked.

I've read Middlesex by Eugenides (who is an awesome guy in person; he graduated from my high school, the school that Virgin Suicides was paroding) and Oryx and Crake by Atwood -- both phenomenal.

The Virgin Suicides is my favorite novel of all time. 1984 (Orwell), The Other (Tryon), Ender's Game (Card), and The Company (Littell) probably round out the top five. I'm reading Koontz' "The Face" now. :)

Another vote for Invisible Monsters and Survivor from me. Check out Red Sorghum by Mo Yan, Norwegian Wood or A Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami. If you have never read Kurt Vonnegut than you should definately check him out. Slaughterhouse Five and Mother Night are my favorite Vonnegut.
