in the interest of making this rather dull, arduous semester go by more quickly... i've decided i need to read something thought provoking (and not something that makes me want to gouge my eyes out a'la gloria steinem's self esteem book)... here's the beginning of my list... please leave me suggestions of good books (but spare me trashy romance ( Read more... )

Hmm your list needs some Joyce Carol Oates. If you want a sort of emotional roller coaster, try her "You Must Remember This".
Gabriel Garcia Marquez's "One Hundred Years of Solitude"
Richard Adam's "Watership Down" if you've never read it.
And everything Kurt Vonnegut has ever written, including short stories and magazine articles.

pure drivel by steve martin (of snl) is a hoot! the handmaid's tale...strange book, kinda creepy, but good. last of the really great whangdoodles by julie edwards is a great imagination book.

is the short story "Secretary" in the Mary Gaitskill book? one of my favorite movies is based on it, i want to read it now.
also, if you read the new Chuck Palahniuk book called Diary, there is a character named after my brother, Matt Hyland. he is a huge fan of the author and won a contest to have his name used in the book.

HAHAH!!! only YOU would have a brother with his name in a story... only you. as for the mary gaitskill/secretary thing... i'm not sure because i haven't bought the book yet... but i will OH I WILL.
