This makes no sense to me

Job news: I had a phone interview with the University of Denver's HR department. We'll see if they want me to do a follow up in-person interview. I wish I weren't so bad at coming up with stuff on the spot (3 strengths, 3 weaknesses, etc.). Well, keep your fingers crossed ( Read more... )

Wow whaaaaat the fuck. It took me several minutes to realize that that was a serious ad campaign and not a parody of some sort.

I know, it's hard to believe, right? We won't be seeing it around here, as it was apparently created by an Israeli ad agency, but I think a drop in their sales worldwide would definitely send a message.

Is this actually really definitely something Bacardi themselves have asked for and signed off on? I mean, I can be a despairingly archetypical privileged male sometimes, and be innocently oblivious when it comes to moderately subtle misogyny and gender stereotyping, but even to me this seems obviously and profoundly offensive to just about everybody. I really don't know who they're even marketing to.

Good luck with the HR role, I'm sure the phone interview was fine. I'm convinced that no actual humans think in the terms they ask those kinds of questions in, so it'd be worryingly odd if you did have a handily prepared answer about your three biggest weaknesses.

Well, as I said above, it was created by an Israeli ad agency for Bacardi. I don't know if the main office (wherever that is) signed off on it directly or not. However, yes, this is an official ad campaign for Bacardi.

Thanks for the good wishes. Maybe I should just write up a script of things about myself (in groups of three) in case questions like that come up in future interviews.

bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
How did they get this to work/ even think that people wouldn't be offended?

Bacardi is ass anyway, and no self respecting run drinkenr should ever put that shit in their body.

I guess they figured people in Israel wouldn't be as "overly sensitive" as we Americans tend to be? Dunno. The only reason I ever bought it was that it was cheap. Perhaps I shall try some Cap'n Morgan for a while.
