Ladders of technology

I got a smartphone a bit over a year ago.  It has an e-reader on it, and I like it lots.  However, it is small, and the battery life sucks.  While I have been mostly happy with it, I think I will be swapping phones once Verizon offers an upgrade ( Read more... )

I love love love my Nexus 7 tablet. It is very portable and fits in my purse. It is great for mobile internet and e-reading and games.

But....

If I had to pick between a tablet and my laptop? Laptop all the way, every day and 3 times on Sunday. It's just a better device for computing.

I have an Asus Transformer (with optional keyboard/dock). I like it a lot but it is not, much as I wanted it to be, a laptop replacement. It's good for web surfing (sites recognize it like a phone but you can set it to look at desktop-format sites) and playing games and music, I think it would probably be good as a media stream player also. (Pandora and YouTube and Vevo all work fine.) I also keep meaning to set up my accounts to read technical articles on it, since I stopped getting paper copies I never read. The keyboard is handy but I found it a little awkward, I didn't try very hard to adjust, though.

I have no input on drawing tools, sorry.

(I now have an Asus laptop and I really like it. My previous was an HP and it died a slow death as the motherboard finally gave out after ~3 years. M has a Lenovo which has gone through 2 hard drives in ~6 months(?). Provided as anecdata should you wish it.)

Good luck!

When it comes to computers I only buy Toshiba and I love them to death! they last an average of 6 years each.
I have 5 e-readers. I like the 3G kindle with keypad the best. Battery lasts a super long time and reading is so convienent plus I can use the web browser anywhere if I need to although I only needed to once. I have an ipod too which is really only good for music and games.
It took me better than a year to decide what computer I wanted and I was only dealing with one brand - I found it most helpful to go to bestbuy and play with them all a lot and see what I really wanted before I invested more money. I got a netbook to travel with because I could load pictures and update my website and it was about 300 so I was less concerned about it getting lost. But I hate touchscreens as they seem to hate me. :)

I have a refurb Asus Transformer with a keyboard dock, and as a tablet, I love it. I also have a desktop for "serious" tasks that require lots of monitor space, or speed, or RAM, or whatever. Also also I inherited Mikey's original iPad which is just fine as a Kindle replacement, since the actual Kindle I inherited has serious battery issues. (It also has a serious availability issue, in that I cannot find it, but that's a different problem. ;-))

I like having the option of the keyboard and glide pad. I like that the on-screen keyboard includes the number keys (the on-screen keyboard for the iPad does not). The battery life is pretty decent--the keyboard has an additional battery in it thus giving you a few more hours of life. I like the Android apps.

I am planning on acquiring an Android smartphone to sync with the tablet, which will hopefully make my life THAT MUCH MORE ORGANIZED.
