I had the opportunity to try a belted pad, and while I thought the shape and fit were good, one thing it seemed to me was that it needed elastic to not only make it more underwear-like and snug fitting, but because I found having to undo a hook and eye everytime I wanted to go to the toilet was a bit tedious

I googled around and found an inflatable underwear mannequin that I will probably use for my farmers market booth. I hope it's not too fragile for customers to manhandle, but if it is I'll cover it with cloth or duct tape or something.

An idea springing from this: The straps from a convertible bra (the sort that can be made strapless or cross-over or halter-neck) could work really well for a belted pad. You could have little loops on the corners of the pad body itself and hook the bra strap fittings into them. Same adjustable fit, but for a pad that's designed to be worn on its own rather than inside underwear or a holder. I think I want to try it.

if you didn't have a bra with those hook things, you could do the same idea with hooks and eyes though.
I think also, that you can buy those convertible straps in some fabric stores... I vaguely remember seeing straps in the one I go so (often clear or fancy, but I wonder if they stock normal ones too)
