Pad Belt (made from an old bra)

Jun 10, 2010 23:26

I had the opportunity to try a belted pad, and while I thought the shape and fit were good, one thing it seemed to me was that it needed elastic to not only make it more underwear-like and snug fitting, but because I found having to undo a hook and eye everytime I wanted to go to the toilet was a bit tedious ( Read more... )

Very clever! It's great the way you were able to use the whole bra. I hadn't caught it that the fit and shape were ok for you on that tester. Now I'm tempted to try again, but I'm still stuck on avoiding elastic XD I think what I need is to find a guide to measurements for specific sizes. Also, that's a great mannequin. Did you make it?

Heh, this reminded me of what schoolchildren learn about Native Americans "using every part of the animal" (an idea that I've always been fond of). . .

yep, the shape/size was fine, but without having any elastic I found the part that goes between the legs wasn't held as snug enough as I'd like..... and having to undo the hook & eye (particularly because it was at the back) was a bit inconvenient ( ... )

I think I will use the bra strap idea for the waist band if I go back to work on belted pads. My problem with most of the testers was the length of the gusset though. It really does have to be snug in order to work. I'll let you know if any ideas come to me.

I googled around and found an inflatable underwear mannequin that I will probably use for my farmers market booth. I hope it's not too fragile for customers to manhandle, but if it is I'll cover it with cloth or duct tape or something.

I love this! I don't have use for it myself, but it would be great to send out with donation pads. I'm never sure what sizes of underwear to send, whereas it seems like this would fit a variety of body shapes and sizes.

Thanks for the tut!

What an incredibly clever idea! And very fortuitous - I just had someone ask me, not quite a week ago, about possibly making up something with a belt so she didn't have to have her pads sliding about in her underdrawers.

Most impressive, and your pictures are very clear and helpful.

An idea springing from this: The straps from a convertible bra (the sort that can be made strapless or cross-over or halter-neck) could work really well for a belted pad. You could have little loops on the corners of the pad body itself and hook the bra strap fittings into them. Same adjustable fit, but for a pad that's designed to be worn on its own rather than inside underwear or a holder. I think I want to try it.

Yep, that's how I think the "Wemoon" night pad does it - http://www.wemoon.com.au/padded_underwear.html

if you didn't have a bra with those hook things, you could do the same idea with hooks and eyes though.

I think also, that you can buy those convertible straps in some fabric stores... I vaguely remember seeing straps in the one I go so (often clear or fancy, but I wonder if they stock normal ones too)
