I personally use about 3-4 pads a day so it all depends on how long menstruation lasts and preference of changing often.
The idea of an elastic band instead of a safety pin for wingless pads sounds better :)
One of the main reasons folks use pretty and colorful fabrics is to dramatically hide possible stains. It's also pretty and encouraging to bleed on colorful fabric. Using cloth pads is another way to escape the white and "sterile" concept of disposable pads, so color is often welcomed. Many women love colorful and pretty underwear, should we not because it's something that our lady bits touch and soil?
So ten-ish daily pads does seem good for a three/four day period after all. Thanks for the advice.
And it's not that I think color is bad, but seeing as pads are specifically for being bled on, it just seems a little counterintuitive for me to make them all nice and then worry about staining.
And I would have made my pads out of any solid-colored cotton, it's just that the white just happened to be the cheapest. :P
Patterns do help to hide the staining! Like that lurid carpet with the very 70s swirls at a place I lived at once - you didn't have to be quite so paranoid about spilling a drink on it because it would be hidden in the swirls.
I have about 10 bigger pads and a thick overnight one (I only need it for one night) and then 6-8 thinner liners for beginning and end days, but I need them longer than you do :)
