Books 18 & 19 (& to-be 20)
18. I read, on both Eric and Lahaina's recommendations, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon. I liked it quite a bit! It was cute, and funny, and even a little bit heart-wrenching, but not in the bad-mood-all-day way. It is a great little book, and I would recommend it to anyone ( Read more... ) -

SUCH a frustrating thing happened to me this morning! I left myself not quite enough time to get to class (I would have been 5 or fewer minutes late though), and as I get off the freeway at 13th, I notice no one is going anywhere and there are some police trucks with flashing lights. BOOKS 16 & 17
So I re-read a book that my dad read to me when I was little, called The House with The Clock in Its Walls by John Bellairs, and it was a bit below my usual reading level (but not so much as to be a children's book), but I liked it a lot. They're pretending to do construction on 13th RIGHT at the merge point! That street is so dismal already, WHAT THE FUCK are they thinking?? Oh I hate traffic. They had better get to the real work and then finish up soon, or I'll be ripping someone's head off. Or something. -
Book 14
I finished it!
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig. It's my dad's favorite book, so I thought I'd give it a shot, and I really liked it! Man, was it long though. I spent a good chunk of time on the airplane to and from Michigan reading it, and still it took me about another week to get to the end. It's really dense too, lots ( Read more... ) -

BOOK THIRTEEN
I just finished In My Hands: Memories of a Holocaust Rescuer by Irene Gut Opdyke. It was amazing. Without giving too much away, this poor young Polish girl (she was 17 when the Polish occupation started) saved the lives of twelve Jews directly, and many others indirectly, by sending word to the ghetto when there was a raid coming. BOOK TWELVE
I FINALLY finished The Pleasure of Finding Things Out by Richard Feynman. It's a collection of speeches, essays, interviews and other short literary works by or of Richard Feynman. He was a super-mega genius who worked on the Manhattan Project (atomic bomb, anyone?), but he also won the Nobel Prize for figuring some super-advanced physics shit out ( Read more... )
