I now understand why we elected GWB twice.

It only took a year and a half of working at Dippin' Dots, but I now understand the mind of the average American. It's not just that they are stupid, we all know that. They're also ignorant an unobservant. For example, at present we have a list of our milkshake flavors sitting on the flat part of the glass sneezeguard, which is used as a tall ( Read more... )

Hmm... maybe I didn't work at Dairy Queen long enough, or maybe my experiences were different?

I mean, I'd frequently have people not notice obvious signs, but that never bothered me any, but only a select few customers were rude or bad. However, the majority of our staff was polite, conciliatory, and helpful.

On the other hand, I have frequently been mistreated at fast-food restaurants... I realize that these people's jobs suck, but that doesn't give them the right to punish people for wanting to eat there. Giving you the wrong food and being rude and unhelpful about getting you the right food even when you're polite about it... giving you burned fries to replace your burned fries etc.

I mean, I'm not going to just go up and be an ass to them, but if someone's being rude to me when I don't deserve it, I am going to be like "Hey, you can't treat me like that."

Oh, I am polite helpful and all that. Because of the low operating budget at Dippin Dots though, I can't give away stuff like free cups. That pisses people off. Also, because one of the employees got scammed and lost 20 bucks to a con artist, we are not longer allowed to give out change like 4 quarters for a dollar. That also seriously annoys people. This leads to a lot more rudeness to me than I might otherwise get.

As for rude or unhelpful folks in fast-food, well, I just tolerate it. Cause I know exactly how much their job sucks, and I know it will only make it suck more if I complain. And generally, whatever their doing isn't that bad. And if it is really bad, well then I might say something.

I dunno how long you worked at DQ, but it took me about 6 months before I really internalized this new attitude.

I for one second the no giving change rule. I remember getting scammed out of some ungodly amount of money by a smooth operator when I was working there.
