Code Name JJ0126 (Chapter 4)

“Are you… sure about this?” walking further away from the door he was leaning against, Yunho whispered urgently to his mobile, not bothering to hide his disbelief as the realisation of current situation slowly sunk in.

The person he saved was actually out to assassinate him… great.

Just great.

Of all things to be messed up together, it simply had to be this.

“Yes, there’s a whole stack of documents about you. Your schedules, your cars, your social circles… basically your everything. He’s out hunting for you, hyung,” the slightest layer of fear lacing Changmin’s voice did not go unnoticed under Yunho’s practiced hearing, and it did not take him too long to accept that the ever brave Changmin was actually scared.

Why so?

Because someone out there was aiming for his head, and that particular person - whoever it was - would not stop until he was killed. It was almost like the silent rule of their world, a rule which said that when one was targeted, one would definitely be killed.

Fuck.

“Hyung… Hyung!”

The repeated calling of his title startled Yunho out of his silent thoughts as he once again spoke to his mobile in a hushed tone, not realising that he was moving further and further away from Jaejoong’s room out of pure instinct.

“Changmin, come back to the hospital at once. Get everything useful out of that car before you send someone to dispose of it. I’ll see you back here, be careful.”

“You too, hyung.”

Ending the call, Yunho cursed inwardly as his fingers moved on his mobile’s keypad in a deft manner, rapidly typing a message to acknowledge Junsu and Yoochun about Jaejoong. Leaving the assassin just like that would have been suspicious, he had long thought about it. Therefore, it would be the best if he simply went back into the room and pretended not knowing a single thing. Seeing that the wounded assassin would most likely do him no harm, he was in an advantage right now.

Plus, there would be Yoochun and Junsu backing him up if anything really did happen, so no risk taken, easily decided.

Taking a deep calming breath, Yunho walked towards Jaejoong’s ward in steady strides before he finally knocked on the ward’s door and whispered a gentle I’m coming in to the current occupant of the room, the person who was out to assassinate him, the person whose name was Kim Jaejoong.

-----

“Yoochun-ah…”

“Yeah, I’ve read that. Junsu, go get our weapons. Don’t forget Yunho’s. I’m going to send some men to the assassin’s ward just in case. Come back fast,” fingers pressing rapidly on the phone, Yoochun’s oh-so-suave playboy aura was replaced instantly by a complete different one, deadly.

He would not allow anyone to harm people who were precious to him, and Yunho was definitely lucky enough to be one of them.

“This is Yoochun speaking, send some men to the VIP ward and keep watch outside the room. If anything happens, kill the patient and dispose of him. Remember, Jung-seonseang’s life is the priority. Beware of the presence of other assassins. GO!” slamming the receiver back down, Yoochun took a deep breath before he started to fumble in every single drawer on the mahogany desk to retrieve any hidden bullets or knifes which might be useful for them later on.

And it actually surprised him a little when he realised just how many weapons they managed to hide in the desk after all these times.

It was rather amusing.

“Yoochun, catch,” the familiar soft voice rang out, though not sounding as playful or childish at it usually appeared to be, but still ironically contrasting the object that was being thrown towards Yoochun in practiced ease - a handgun fully equipped with silencer.

Nodding, Yoochun effortlessly grabbed the handgun sliding towards him in midair, weighted it for a little on his palm just like how he would every single time he set his hands on his precious baby - the Luger. Or more well-known as the Parabellum-Pistole, a semi-automatic exotic beauty which was designed and patented during the 19th century, proudly bearing the title as one of the most expensive handguns in the world.

“Shall we go?” smiling a little to cease the air of tension between Junsu and himself, Yoochun draped his beige coat over his shoulder as he spoke, with his handgun resting snugly at the inner pocket of said coat, easily in reach.

“Yeah, let’s.”

-----

Yunho had to admit that he was astounded to say the least, he really was.

After receiving the mind-boggling call from Changmin and promptly decided that he would feign oblivious to Jaejoong’s true identity, Yunho had never thought that the first thing that welcomed him when he re-entered the VIP ward was the beautiful man’s deadpanned yet oh-so-sure statement.

“You knew.”

Well, that was unexpected.

Thus the oh-so-useful feigned obliviousness yet again.

“… Huh?”

“I said you knew.”

The pair of alluring wide doe eyes blessed with the darkest iris Yunho had ever seen in his whole life, still being so innocent and untainted as if they were papers of the purest white, stared at him bluntly and directly, making him lost his footing in his own subconscious mind involuntarily. Not knowing why the injured man actually brought up such a topic, Yunho could only sigh inwardly and choose the best solution among all the bad and rotten ones which his mind shamelessly provided him with.

He remained silent.

“Not going to kill me?”

Again, the huge watery eyes, blinking, and Yunho thought that he might as well as drown in those enticing black pools if the owner of said eyes kept on staring at him like that. Furious, he shook his head, once, twice, finally got rid of those silly thoughts, and then he spoke.

“Not really... or not yet. Care to tell me why?” keeping a safe distance with Jaejoong, with him standing right beside the door while the other leaning casually on the headboard of the bed, he crossed his arms in front of his toned chest and curled his very thin lips upwards.

A fake smile.

Carefully noticing the minor details in the room, with his brain spinning and tumbling just to analyse every single possibility of how Jaejoong would attack him if the man really had the intention to do so, at the same time working out solutions to counter all the possible attacks he could think of, he smiled yet again.

Better be safe than sorry, or so others said.

“It’s my job,” surprised by his own answer, as he did not expect himself to be this truthful with his own target, Jaejoong was taken aback for a little when he heard exactly what slipped out of his mouth so casually, as if the person in front of him was an alliance or even a friend instead of a victim-soon-to-be.

He had not been truthful in years.

“Assassin?” leaning his back idly against the pristine white wall of the ward, Yunho spoke again, this time with a voice laced with the thinnest layer of amusement. Of all the possibilities he had thought of earlier, getting all friendly with his assailant and having a heart-to-heart talk was definitely not on the list. Not even if they were keeping a safe distance among themselves.

“Yes.”

The answer given was short and crisp as expected, and Yunho could not bring himself to expect for more. They were enemies after all.

“Who sent… ”

A knock.

Startled but not giving out anything on the surface, Yunho turned his head towards the door slightly, not allowing Jaejoong to leave his sight even for a mild second, and then unlocking the door with deft fingers.

His caution-level was way too low, he knew.

But this was Yoochun’s family hospital after all, he could risk to be a little unsuspecting.

“I’m sorry to interrupt but it’s time to check on the patient. Can I?”

Fully equipped with the standard long white robe with a stethoscope hanging down lazily from the narrow shoulder, it was not hard to figure out that the lanky figure who knocked on the door earlier on was a doctor.

“It’s alright. Go ahead.”

Nodding a little, he gave his permission to the doctor’s request, simply assuming that the newcomer of the ward would have known his relation with Yoochun for sure, just like every other employee here did.

“I’m so sorry about that. Thank you very much, Jung-seonseang.”

Ah, so he did know.

Hearing his surname along with the honorific suffix, his caution level was reduced yet again, making him smiled and nodded as he directed his attention back to Jaejoong, not planning to leave the room anytime soon even if the doctor was going to perform a body check on the other man.

He would just stay around and watch, no big deal.

Being a little distracted as he dived in his own seas of thoughts, Yunho simply had to thank his years of experience when his quick eyes managed to notice the slightest change of Jaejoong’s expression - a brief widening of those huge doe eyes - in time and on time.

Not even giving his action another thought, he reached for the nearest object available which happened to be a vase resting on top of the closet, threw it with full force across the room, and was so glad when it connected with the aimed target - the doctor’s back.

No, the assassin’s back.

Another assassin.

Not even remembering to tell Jaejoong to get away, as he knew by heart the man would know that he had to escape to stay alive, the next thing Yunho did was simply charging at the assassin with full force, keeping only one thing in mind - need to grab the gun.

“Fuck!”

Someone cursed, but he was too busy to care who did.

Cuffing the thin neck with one hand while trying hard to grab the gun with the other, Yunho was mildly surprised by the sheer strength of the assassin. Apparently, the assailant was unexpectedly strong for a scrawny and lanky figure like that, as he could not keep the person in place for more than a couple of seconds even with his years of martial arts training.

“J-Jung-seonseang, w-what are you… doing?! Park-seonseang s-sent… me here!!”

… What?!

Yoochun did?

Hearing the out of breath pants and out of place claims from the assassin made Yunho lost his focus for a little while, and that alone was enough for the skilled man to escape from his confinement, at the same time pulling the trigger for the semi-automatic handgun clutched tightly on the person’s right hand.

His target was definitely not Yunho.

“Shit! Jaejoong!”

Almost instinctively, he called out for the beautiful man who was currently clutching his injured thigh and panting really hard against a wall, realising that he was sporting a major frown between his brows when he saw the trail of blood on the mosaic tiled floor. Startled by how worried and distraught he sounded, Yunho simply had to wonder why he was worrying about the man who sought for his life yet again.

“Hyung!”

The VIP ward’s door was busted open out of a sudden, with Junsu and Yoochun leading a group of people in dark glasses and suits came barging in, and Yunho finally heaved a sigh of relief when he saw all the guns were pointed at the fake doctor instead of Jaejoong.

Never, ever held a gun you see, that easily made you the bad guy.

Vaguely thought that how similar this was to those action movies that he had loved since he was a kid, Yunho actually managed a tiny smile after all those chaos he went through as he took the gun away from the assassin’s shaking frame.

“Take him away.”

With a simple order, Yoochun’s so called henchmen wasted no time in dragging the assassin away. As for what would happen to the person next, Yunho thought that it would most probably better for him if he just asked for the result of the “questioning session”.

“You guys are late.”

A half-hearted complaint.

“Sorry about that. You okay?”

Realising that Yoochun actually did sound a little apologetic, he patted his friend’s shoulder as he muttered a positive reply under his breath, keeping a slight smile all the while.

“Umm… I want to talk to him, can you guys leave us alone for a while?” already knowing that his friends would disagree to his request, Yunho was really fast in pushing the couple to and out of the ward’s door, not even giving them a chance to say no.

“Yoochun-ah, ask a doctor to come over,” with that said, he closed the door right on his astounded friends’ faces, not having any sense of guilt to say the least.

He really needed to talk to Jaejoong.

Regaining his usual calm and steady composure, Yunho forced himself not to go over and check on Jaejoong’s injuries no matter how badly he wanted to do so, but instead just slumped on the comfy sofa at the corner of the room, appearing completely nonchalant as he spoke in a well-feigned uninterested tone.

“Now… shall we start talking?”
