SGA Renewed for Season Five? Aww, man!

NOTE: This entry contains general spoilers for "Stargate Atlantis." The spoilers do wander all over the place, so do read with caution.

Okay, so I already mentioned how I'm not exactly fond of the new SGA. Well, it seems that New SGA has been renewed for a fifth season. I am well aware of the fact that this makes me a "bad ( Read more... )

After the 1st three episodes (well, Reunion wasn't all that bad) I was ready to throw in the towel, too. Doppelganger helped quite a bit, but there are still issues I have with this show.

Carson- don't get me started. Keller- well, I never watched Firefly so I have no prior experience, but man is she flat and boring.

Carter- can't stand her on SGA. Hate that she comes up with solutions by saying "Oh, Jack and I did this...." Ugh.

I'll watch until Hewlett quits (There is NO WAY that McKay will be killed off) but I am still complaining. This is not my show. I don't know where it went, but I do home someone can find it soon.

I know. I watched the first four episodes, because I had to know what happened to them. I did have to go to the spoiler boards beforehand, because I avoided all SGA talk for the entire summer. *It was hard.*

Yeah, me, too. I just loved Carson so much, and then here's this new chick taking his place. I just pout when I see her on-screen. There's also the fact that I thought that if they needed to kill a doctor, they could have taken Heightmeyer down, because I never really liked her . Now, they got her and Carson wasn't instantly back.

Yeah! I *really* like Carter, which is what makes this suck all the more. She my badass babe over on SG-1, but now I just can't like her as much as I used to. That definitely makes me sad.

Ditto. I'm just watching for McKay and Jason's hotness, even though I've so over him with his cheating ways.

I love Jewel but I gotta agree, her character isn't interesting me at all. If she's been in Atlantis for all three years supposedly, how is it she's still so timid and uncertain? Carson was like that at the start, but he got tougher (a bit, anyway) as time went on.

You know, I think I would like Jewel in and of herself if she were on something else. It's just the whole moving in on turf, that really isn't her fault.

My thoughts exactly, but Radek some of the other scientists can still be a little scittish, so it's possible that maybe she's the same way. More than likely, I always pegged her as someone who came on one of the Daedalus rotations.

Hi, I saw your post over on sganoticeboard, hope you don't mind me dropping in with my two cents :)

Mostly, I agree. The thing I liked about old SGA, one of them anyway, was the occasional crossover. Sam receiving the messages from Atlantis, imaginary!Sam helping Rodney, and then the other way around, with the Pegasus Project in SG1 season 10. Now, its all a bit too much.

Its been said before, but why Sam anyway? There was two characters on SG-1 that only had like two years worth of stories, as opposed to her ten.

Also, I think I just sent you an anon comment. Oops!

I don't mind at all.

Now, I'm curious. What did you disagree with?

I LOVED those crossover episodes, because neither show was stepping on the other too much. It also gave us all of this background interaction that we don't normally see. And the McKay/Imaginary!Sam was so brilliant, that it almost evens out Gero's "Sunday."

Yeah, I really couldn't tell you. If anyone was going to take over, I think that I'd rather it'd have be one of the SGA personnel. It would have been funny to see the way McKay would have run the city.

Yeah, you did, but that's okay. I'll go ahead and delete it. = D

I've somewhat watched SG1 off and on since it's been on. Wasn't a diehard fan, but did quickly become one of SGA ( ... )

I ended up watching a lot more of SG-1 than I realized. I've gone through episode lists and would recognize quite a few of them. Now that the series is out on a box set and I have a pretty good site to look them up on, I can catch up even more ( ... )

I didn't start getting episodes of SG1 until after becoming hooked on SGA. I still get the blahs over SG1, but there are still some mighty fine episodes that I never get tired of. 'The Lost City' is number one on my list ( ... )

Really? I'm the exact opposite. I knew SG-1 first, because my mom used to put the episodes on and there was no other television set. Then, I started watching them by myself, because I'd gotten into the habit of doing so and there was nothing else on. When SGA came along, I blew it off, because I am very hit-or-miss with spin-offs. I liked the Stargate cartoon A LOT, but the episodes I saw of SGA were never whole ones. I kept coming in on the middle of a part I'd seen already. Apart from Rainbow being cute, I wasn't interested. Eventually, after avoiding the show and the fiction for it, I gave up and read one of dirty_diana's fics featuring John/Ford, because her SG-1 fics were that good. Now, I'm all hooked like a junkie ( ... )

Amen. Ford I could understand, there really was done for plot reasons, and while I missed, him, that was a gutsy move. But this isn't my show anymore. Both the premise and the cast have been shot to hell. You said it better than I even could, but I miss the people who were human, who were in over their head and doing the best they could. I cannot stand St. Sam, and I hate the way that the balance is gone. I've stopped watching and what little fic I'm writing, is pre-Ark.

Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone in this. I feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of squee and SGA isn't home for me anymore. And telling myself it's just a show isn't working so well.

Thanks!

I missed Ford, because I did like him, but they didn't use him quite as much as they should have. The re-vamp was sort of exciting, but they could have done so much more with that storyline! Then, there was the fact that fandom heard from Kavan that the main reason Aiden was written out was that Rainbow was screwing up on-set. It sucks, but it happens sometimes. In this case, these were two people who were doing what they were supposed to, as far as we know.

The fic that I am writing right now is up-to-date, but I'm just working around it or planning to kill people off. When Nano starts, I'm planning to work with the pre-"Sunday" era.

No, you're definitely not allow in this. I thought I was the only one who wasn't as excited about season five. As far as I'm concerned, there's always fan fic somewhere on the Internet that I can read. = D

I hadn't heard that about Aiden, but I'll buy it. And while it's sad, I have to admit that I think the Ronon character had more potential with his history and all that. Not that they've lived up to it. But there was no reason to cut Tori or Paul except that they had to get Sam in. And the SGA universe suffered for both the loss of two major characters and the forcing in of another.

I'm glad you're writing and I'll keep an eye out for your posting. Do you mind if I friend you? No is an answer. :)

I read that in the comments of mice1900's journal. I think. This was months ago and was what made me give up hope of ever seeing Rainbow on the show again.

He did! That's why I read so much fiction with Ronon backstory, because the writers haven't used it that much yet.

*sad nod* This is true. There really was no reason for them to cut Torri and Paul out. I see myself reading even more Elizabeth and Carson-based fics in the future to make up for it.

I'm just working on my drabbles challenge for 50drabbles over on InsaneJournal at the moment. What are you focusing on? No, I don't mind in the least. I'm here on LJ, but I mainly post to IJ these days. Do you have that as well? I'll do a double friending if you do.

Found your post through sganoticeboard.

I agree with some of what you said there. As much as I like SG-1, I didn't want Sam to move over, let alone to have her run the place. As much as I may have liked her on SG-1, I want her gone from Atlantis ASAP. I didn't like Carson's death (made all the worse by the fact that I actually *liked* the episode until that happened) and I absolutely *hate* the fact that they've got rid of Torri. Elizabeth's one of my favourite characters.

On the other hand, I certainly did not want SGA to be cancelled! I still watch the show, and I expect to still enjoy it even with the irritations. The first two eps of the new season I really liked (as much as I hated Elizabeth leaving, the Replicator ep was brilliant). I like the new doctor - as long as I don't think of her as Carson's replacement, she's fine. Basically as annoyed as I may be by all the changes, I'd rather have an SGA with some faults than no SGA at all...

...my main problem with the changes, btw, is the lack of explanation. I mean, Richard Dean Anderson leaves SG-1, we know it's because he wants to spend more time with his child. Other times, characters are clearly got rid of for plot purposes, or perhaps because they're not popular or the dynamic's not working right...

But what's the reason here? Why get rid of a character who was made a regular because he was so popular? Why get rid of the leading lady? I haven't heard even a *rumour* that either actor wanted to leave. In fact, I've heard no rumours at all about the reason. So why?

Yes! It's that, too! They never even say why they're getting ride of someone. I read and listened to a few of Paul McGillion interviews, and it was abundantly clear that he wanted to stay. He sounded broken up about the move to kill him off, especially since he thought he was being called into the office to be congratulated on the good job he was doing.

I'm asking the same questions, hon. I really wish that I knew. : - /

I agree with you about Sam. I adored her on SG-1, but everything's so off now that she's moved over. I liked "Sunday," too! I mean, liked it in the way that it was set up to be one of my favorite SGA episodes of all time. I didn't realize how big a fan of Elizabeth I was until I saw episodes like "The Real World" and "Adrift." Of course, the announcement of her being written out helped, too.

As cranky as I am, I might just continue watching the show. I don't know where I'm going to be by the time we get to season five, but things look iffy right now. I really did like the episodes I've seen so far, for the most part. The irritations are pretty darn big to ignore, but I know what you mean.

Also, LOL @ your icon.
