Oh man, Duke reacted the exact same way, and I was so pissed. The editorial board of our paper even wrote a big thing in support of the administration. They're basically saying, "We know poor kids often can't apply early, and we know that applying early gives you a better chance of getting in, but we don't think that poor kids are being denied a better chance of getting in." Plus, they completely ignore the fact that most kids who apply early are not only rich, but private-school educated and therefore have major access to college prep and pre-college advisement that kids at, say, Hoover or Woodward-Granger don't have. I wish someone at Duke would write an article about it; I would, but unfortunately, I have to study for the LSAT so I can be a capitalist puppet all my life. XOXO.
