I enjoyed this. So sad for the brother though.

You have no idea how broken my brother was, because my father was broken too.

Thanks for reading! ✌🐁

Engrossing story - makes me want to know more about Mouse. It's got a very real feeling except for her final explanation to her brother - that doesn't ring as true in terms of how one child would talk to another. It's clearly for the reader. LOVE the last couple of lines - "She resisted...never safe."

(FYI, it's cast not caste, and trailed not tailed.)

Thank you. It is a true story... And I was almost 16 to my brother's 12 My brother would've been described as special needs.
TY on the grammer! Not my strong suit! 🐁✌

This is a lovely way to tell a heartbreaking story.

It's good therapy for me to write about Pop and his alcohol days. He sobered up right before I turned 18. He died of a cardiac/massive stroke event 2 weeks after my 21st birthday. We had 'made up' by then, or I think I'd have more guilt. 🎈✌🐁

Writing is cathartic. I am glad to hear you had some modicum of closure. That is transformative.

I can't imagine how hard this must have been on you and your brother. I wish you all the best and hope only good things for both of you.

Tough, it certainly was that. I learned early how to compartmentalize the pain and anger, how to channel it into something decent and good. 🎈✌🐁

It is. My brother never recovered, and we've been out of contact for 30years, I just hope he's safe and happy.
