The fic should be set before the end of the series. Mikami has somehow cracked, or at least goes through random bursts of insanity. He discovers Kira's identity through Takada and stalks Light before finally abducting him. He wants to protect his beloved god from his perceived threat of the Japanese police and do all of the murders himself. Mikami is allowed to be killed at the end if the writer wants Light to escape, but that's optional. The basic theme should be the backlash of Light wanting Kira to be a god and worshiped.
