AN: Belated reply, I know, but better late than never, right? Not the same anon who promised originally to fulfil this, and I know it's been months since it was requested, but the idea came back to me this morning, and thus...

“Mello, I don’t think-“

“Shut up, Near.”

The other boy shuffles. Mello hears the sound of silk brushing against itself and swallows.

“But-“

“Near, shut up.Near closes his mouth, and licks his bottom lip, nervously. Mello watches distractedly as the pain on his lips smears at the edges

So Mello catches him by the chin and half lifts him. Near’s cheeks are surprisingly wide, and he has to press to feel the shape of his jaw, his teeth, ignoring the grit of the white powder under his fingertips. He knows pinching like this will hurt. Near says and does nothing, and Mello lets his wrist go, to run a hand along his shoulders, brushing the material thoughtfully.

“I hate you sometimes,” Near whispers, when Mello looses his grip, “I loathe you

Not the OP, but this was fabulous! I've been watching this prompt and waiting to see where someone went with it, and I really really liked this interpretation.

This was so super! I especially loved "Mello can see red under the nail of a forefinger, and imagines Near with a tube of lipstick, applying it carefully and scraping it off where he’s drawn outside the line he wanted." What a wonderful detail. <3
