Death Note Fic Recs: Hidden Gems?

Sep 20, 2011 14:11

There are a lot of awesome Death Note fics hidden out there, I'm sure. Totally amazing fics that have so little actual recognition that most fans pass them right by. I'm looking for said fics.

Can you guys rec me your absolute favorite Death Note fics, particularly ones not mentioned everywhere under the sun? Though I realize that what appears ( Read more... )

Since you said you had looked on Fanfic.net before, maybe you've already come across this, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3813281/1/bPoison_b_bApple_b - Poison Apple by RobinRocks. It's an amazing fic. Pairings: L/Light and Light/L. and later Matt/Mello. You should definitely read it if you haven't already. A couple of her other Death Note fics are L/Light and well written too.

Also, they're not particularly as long as you requested, but you can always find some epic stuff if you go through the stuff at dn_contest The comm isn't active anymore, but wow, there were some amazing writers there.

I'm sure it's considered really bad form to rec one's own fic, but I'mma do it anyway, since you don't seem to be a getting a lot of responses. And since it seems to fit your requirements.

Furious Angels I: Nameless Here Forevermore is an in-progress fic (the first arc of three planned) that I'm co-writing with the author Starherd. It's largely Light/L-centric but will involve many other canon characters by the time it's done. We'd like to think it's good, but as it's our first foray into writing in the DN fandom (both as a partnership and individually), it's not something I'd expect anyone to have heard about. XD What's written thus far is gen/drama/angst/plot, but it's rated M for a reason. We just don't have those chapters up yet. XD

IMO, the most underrated fic I have come across has got to be Second Chances by Spades 44.

You may not have come across it, as it looks like it's L/OC, but it's not. The summary puts it as "L/Someone familiar" - someone most of the readers have hypothesized to be Light, but it has yet to be confirmed indefinitely, as the fic is still ongoing. It's enormously long (almost 400k and counting) and the updates are fairly regular. Other major pairings include Matt/Mello, Naomi/Raye, and fairly platonic L/Matsuda.

My only warning: is that it's heavy on the L love, and not so heavy on the Light love. That doesn't bother me, but if you're a major Kira/Light fan, it might put you off.

My absolute favorite fic I have read in the DN fandom, though, has got to be The Redeemer Series by CocoaCoveredGods, which is a ridiculously long, plot-heavy epic AU. The first fic in the series is called Redeemer, but it has several sequels, the latest of which is still ongoing. Major pairings are L/Light, Matt/Mello, Mello/Light, and L/B. I couldn't even ( ... )

No, YOU'RE my queen. (*chuckles*)

Seriously, thanks so much! I can't wait to sink my teeth into the above recs! Guh. You seriously just made my day (which is probably really pathetic when you think about it, but whatever.)

Once again, thanks so much!

asdfghjkl; it's fantastic, isn't it? How they manage to keep the updates so often and consistent is beyond me. It deserves to be rec'd everywhere. ♥

For genfic, try anything by Armagnac. The fics are plotty, amazing, low or no romance/smut, and absolutely every single one is finished.

There also are huge lists of fairly high-quality Death Note recs at the crack_van reccing community and on TV Trope's fanfic recs.

crack_van only has complete fics and TV Tropes has a lot of information about each fic such as whether it is finished or not. Just between the two of those rec sources, probably half of the well-known Death Note longfics are listed.

For some reason, it screened my comment, so I guess I'll try again without including links:
