Been reading Sept. Stew for the last three days, it is good. he wrote so many of his writings that should be mandatory reading in high schools and colleges, hopefully before we die we can take down the bitches and get the kids some easy access to Bukowksi. The books are in the stores, but it should his writings should be more famous then that damn Catcher in the Rye, and it ain't which pisses me off. Some New York magazine said Bukowksi was a "genre writer" what do you think about that?

I've heard so-called intellectuals refer to him as a Beatnik, which is equally rediculous. What genre does he write in. New York Lit Magazines are never to be trusted in regards to a writer's intent - Those fckn people can't even agree on interpreting the content.
I think by a point the man knew where his audience was. I'd be willing to wager that since he didn't start writing seriously until his forties, he knw his audience damn well. Alot of people also accuse him of being a liar because they can't tell the difference between something written in the first person and autobiography, and that really pisses me off, almost as much as people who regard him as a "beat" writer...
The books aren't always in the stores, tho - Alot of independent bookstores won't carry him because so many of his fans choose to steal them, but, wait, what am I talking about? What the hell is an independent bookstore? It's been so long since I've seen one...

Yeah, I don't care much for people who call him a liar. Either he did that himself, heard someone talk about it at the bar, or thought like with Fuck Machine, this would be cool if this happened to me, and this is I would act in that situation.
Do you know where i can get a copy of barfly?

off the top of my head I would say ebay - Don't bother with auctions, just go to the "buy it now" e-bay stores... If you would rather just drive somewhere I would say that either Borders or Suncoast will probably have a dvd in stock - failing that, you could order it. It's worth hunting down if you haven't seen it - Mickey Rourke acts like a douchebag in every single other movie he has ever been in with the exceptions of rumblefish and buffalo '66 - But he is really great in that movie, as a sort of mad, young, slightly hollywood version, but still a total scumbag with none of the unpleasantries ommitted. Sylvester Stallone's younger brother Frank plays the Bartender that is always kicking Hank's ass. Classic. Also, Bukowski has a cameo as an old man sitting at the bar.
