Underweighting staying nearer to campus rather than a cheaper place further away, or buying a printer relative to using a cheaper lab printer, etc.
Presuming that self-reported satisfaction is a reliable marker, there is some suggestion that people do indeed choose to commute too long. There is probably a tendency to under-weight future inconvenience (or over-weight current costs) when making decisions over the long term.
