Avoiding fandom

Feb 02, 2010 01:08

So I've been avoiding fandom, if you were wondering where I've been, for several reasons both positive and negative.

Positively: I've been participating in organizing monetary donations as well as clothing and water for Haiti relief at my school as well as in my (neighborhood) community. It's been taking up a lot of my time not devoted to classes, ( Read more... )

MASSENA! It has been so wonderful and rewarding working for Haiti relief. In the first few days, my parents were working so unbelievably tirelessly to help in ANY and EVERY way that they could, that I couldn't just sit back on my laurels. My father is... let's just say he's a civil servant and my mother has always been heavily involved in charity work, but I've never really gotten actively involved in a major cause until now and I can't imagine NOT having helped out.

Thanks so much for your support! It's really nice to know that you've got my back!

I share your weakness for Chlex, ::GAH:: Michael Rosembaum as Lex, OMG UNF! And I agree with everything you said about Chlavis!

"I'm not surprised your parents are civic minded. I could tell that about you. Maybe that's why you have always given me such a good feeling. People whose parents believe in civic responsibility tend to have kids who believe in it too."

Awww that was so nice of you to say!

I agree. People do say VERY stupid stuff in fandom, and often. And without getting into the back and forth of it all, I did address the poster to no avail and the confrontation resulted in my leaving that board. I haven't decided if it's permanently yet, but I did decide that I'd had enough of staying away from fandom because of it, so it's good to be back :-D

Tangential, but I ran into several Chlollie shippers in a completely different fandom this evening who said they might be tempted back into watching Smallville if they did the ship.

Poor doomed things. It's like the Godfather. You at least are already stuck. I hope you get some good scenes out of it.

I've been chatting with a few former Chlarkers/loyal Smallville fans who will be returning just to see how Chlollie will play out. I am hoping for good scenes as well, Steamy ones too, LOL!

Hi! You friended me, I friended you back. :) I see we have a lot of shows/ships in common.

I've only just recently dipped my toe into Smallville fandom - it's only since, perhaps, "Roulette", that I became invested in Oliver/Chloe and started looking for icons & fic. I don't get all the name-combos [that is, I don't like the look of them ;)]. I have trouble saying "Chlollie" without needing to cough. :( But, uh, yeah, I'll still ship 'em whatever they're called. :D

Yes, I friended you when I saw your post in the Chlollie comm about Portrait Mag.

Glad to have you on the Chlollie bandwagon, so to speak! And I would definitely ship them whatever they were named too! LOL!

I am with you on not being a Chlarker but a Chlois fan none the less :)

I like the Chlark fanfics because the authors always have Clark realizing the error of his ways and that Chloe is this wonderful woman that he is madly in love with, but on the show, Clark's going to have to work a hell of a lot harder to even deserve the right to talk to Chloe.

For me, the Chlois theory is all about Chloe being the true Lois Lane from the beginning. She's the hardworking, ace reporter dedicated to uncovering the truth. Chloe would restore the dignity to the Lois character and AM brings the gravitas tot the role that ED lacks.

And while I a Chloe multishipper, my heart will always belong to Chlex :):)

I think the confusion with Chlollie comes in because there do seem to be some Clois fans who ship Chlollie the way they used to ship Chimmy-- ie, because it gets Chloe out of the picture. So there ARE Clois fans out there shipping Chlollie, from which some people extrapolate that ALL Chlollie fans are Cloisers. But I know a ton of real Chloe fans who ship Chlollie. I don't ship it myself, but that doesn't make me or you less of a "real" Chloe fan than anyone else ( ... )

Because of the Chlark/Clois shipper war that's going on, I could definitely understand how this Chlarker arrived at her conclusions about supposed Chloe fans that ship Chlollie, but I just found it incisive and derisive amongst a community that's already fighting FOR Chloe. The last thing her fans need is to be fighting amongst ourselves too. And I'm sure that there are Clois fans out there that ship Chlollie for the distinct purpose of "getting Chloe out the way." And I just feel like if you need to to eliminate a character to safeguard your supposed CANON pairing then that says a lot about your own faith in the legitimacy of your ship. And I could go on, but I think I'll save my thoughts on that for another post later today. LOL ( ... )
