Sep 03, 2007 11:53

Monday had dawned and soon found Wilson cooking, as was tradition on Labor Day!

He was making a mixture of some new creole dishes with some old favorites, including a half pig grilled out on the smoker he'd talked Aziraphale into putting out on the patio ( Read more... )

Pippi had gone over to the Divine Leaf for her morning coffee but after talking to Lana for a bit, the smell of smoking meat wafting around drew her over like one of those bug zappers.

Busy cutting up some fresh herbs, Wilson looked up as Pippi came through the door and smiled.

"Good morning, Pippi."

And so, of course, the angel had a glass of beer sitting on the table next to him, as he read the newspaper to Wilson. He knew better than to get in the way of the cooking, and so instead he busied himself with keeping an eye on the smoker and bringing the young doctor up to date on the latest headlines.

It wasn't a local paper, of course. Just whichever random publication Aziraphale happened to conjure out of thin air that morning.

Every so often Wilson slipped past the angel, usually to steal a sip off his beer.

It was a habit he'd picked up somewhere, Phale could probably identify where.

That was all right, because occasionally the angel got up from his chair and snuck a bit of food from what his lover was preparing.

It was totally not an excuse to cop a feel steal a kiss now and again.

The angel might have been reminded, in lovingly graphic detail, why it was not good to tease the cook.

Dean had gotten diverted from the shop by the wonderful smells coming from the residence side of things. He leaned on the door frame to look inside.

"You know, usually when people have a cookout for Labor Day, they're, you know, outside,"

Wilson arched a brow as he looked up from where he was prepping hamburger patties. He had a system whereby the cheese was cooked inside the burger, which tended to keep the toppings from sliding off.

"That's just one part of the meal. I still plan to grill later towards the dinner hour."

Wilson tended to make a lot of food.

"Don't tell me you and Azzie are planning to eat all that yourselves,"

Lana poked her head in. "Hey, no fair. It smells much better over here than where I am!"

"That's because I'm over here," Wilson said, with a mock haughty little grin!

"So unfair!" She grinned at him. "Here I am, stuck over here, with all those wonderful smells just tempting me."

"Hmmm, now what can we possibly do about that?" Wilson said thoughtfully as he piled some rice into a bowl, topped it with one of the freshly cooked fish and creole sauce and then walked it over towards the table.

Setting it down, with a fork and spoon next to it, he tapped the chair in an obvious invitation for Lana to sit down and enjoy.

Marie figured that after being in town for three days, she really should spend some time with her dads, so she headed over to their place, completely unsurprised to discover them cooking in mass quantity. Some things never changed.

She headed over to the keg, poured herself a beer, kicked off her shoes and sat down to relax.

Looking up from where he was prepping some spice marinated portabello mushrooms for the grill -since over half this food he wasn't going to eat himself- Wilson smiled broadly.

"Well, well, well ... look what the northern winds blew in!"

Aziraphale was already grinning ear to ear at Marie's appearance, and he set aside his paper.

"What, no hugs for the old men?" he teased.

Marie laughed, but set her beer down and got up to give the requested hugs to both. "It's good to see you both again," she said.
