Today was my last day at work until April 25th. I'm on vacation, woo hoo! I'm not going anywhere, just gonna hang out and enjoy the glorious spring weather. Maybe I'll finally go find me a nice bicycle. After all, I live only a mile and a half away from work, and most of that mile and a half is safe, scenic, easy riding through side streets. I went off call this morning. Ah, freedom from the pager! It is lovely.

I just now caught myself waiting for the pager to go off. Ha, ha! I'm not wearing it any more!

The first day off call is the best. The freedom is still so novel.

I picked up a white cat that was sitting with its paws tucked under in what a friend calls "the meatloaf position" in an alley corner behind a loading dock. No collar, no microchip - like most cats. As things go, Animal Control in this middle-class suburban community is pretty low-key, relatively speaking. We don't have the urban dog-fighting horrors to deal with, or the rural meth lab situations, or a widespread culture of casual neglect as is the case in so many other parts of this country and much of the rest of the world. I love my job but boy, it sure is stressful. I'll be taking a week off starting April 16. I am really, really looking forward to doing absolutely nothing.

Well, almost absolutely. I have a few things planned. But mostly I plan to lie around and relax. Oh boy. I can't wait!
