The company I work for had more redundancies last week. I found out a day before and was certain I would be one of the ones to go - it makes sense, I earn more than some of the other system engineers here, I'm older than they are and there's really not much I do that they couldn't pick up pretty easily. I guess this means we won't be seeing you down this end of the planet for quite a while yet.

It's not usually as horrible to keep your job as it is to lose it, but speaking from experience a few years ago, keeping your job while colleagues you respect are losing theirs comes pretty close on the horribleness meter. Morale on my team never really recovered. Funnily enough I was working for a US firm at the time...

You have my sympathy - I hope your team gets through okay.
