May 18th I finally got included in one of the company's layoff parties. I can't really blame the place, it needs to save money and wait until the new product makes some. This is a bad area for a foreign engineer to be out of work but I've had some contract work for a company in Oregon and there may be some more short term stuff coming up. Contract ( Read more... )

Really sorry to hear that. You certainly seem to be taking it in stride. Better now than in the middle of winter, I suppose! Best of luck, and let us know how you are doing.

Thanks for the kind words. The contract work is getting me through bills, which is good, and its interesting work. Not really jumped into frantic resume fanning yet, will get to that soon and see what I can come up with.

How are you guys? I haven't been able to keep up with this place recently. You been enjoying the summer rain?

We are well, thanks. Definitely not enjoying the weather, but now that the sun is out, feeling much better! Don's work with the electrician has been very slow lately, so we can relate. He is looking into getting a handyman's license. Let us know how you're doing. Maybe a trip to Mhead is in your future?

I'd also look into getting a handyman's license, except I'm not particularly handy.

Woud be lovely to visit Marblehead at some point. We've been making use of the hot weather by visiting various nice places between Manchester and Rockport. I'm still out of work, so even though it's been great to get out all the nice stuff we do is enfused with a tiny pinch of guilt on my part for not contributing.

As a complete aside, Michelle and I were going to write a short comic strip featuring a superhero called Marblehead and his sidekick Peabody. I think in my current downtime maybe we'll resurrect that idea.

Hope you've been enjoying the sun somewhere lovely.

Stink owww indeed. But it could be worse, so I can't complain.

My ideal plan, that I just came up with, is for you guys to put us up and for me to get work in New Zealand. That way we get to live in New Zealand and you guys get... actually, my plan is pretty much one sided.

ah yes, and don't forget you'll also have access to my extensive wine and whisky collection...

However I expect you'll be bring some (plenty) of those hard earned U.S. dollars with you (one U.S. dollar currently equals a ziquillion NZ paua) so while you both will be enjoying the tranquility of our spare room (with its attractive view to the leaking conservatory) you will at least be able to feel better by spoiling us rotten by taking us to flash eateries and paying with that special money of yours... Howz your cooking skills btw (after all we'll need to eat something with our cellar reduction program in action)?

For work go to http://www.seek.co.nz/it-jobs ;) (except of course half every salary figure to compare to U.S...)
