if I posted abt LJ on Facebook, my status would be "had to go back to skip=280 on her friendslist"; I don't, though, so I'm marking the occasion here. come to my arms, my beamish internet!

Plus, I am a big Forster fan and I resent anyone who makes life difficult for him because of similar last names.

i too am an ENORMOUS forster fan, although my love is based solely on room with a view and maurice. (i keep starting howards end and failing to make it over the hump, to my shame, and have never tackled passage to india.)
also, I'd watched the TV series first and was wondering where all the homoerotic tension had gone
ahaha SO TRUE. ioan gruffydd is so utterly perfect as hornblower! plus jamie bamber is beautiful at whatever age. :D

I don't know if you've read On Beauty, but a lot of that is a tribute to Howards End. When I read it, I spent most of my time wishing for Forster, as talented as Zadie Smith is. (Perhaps is the references hadn't been quite so obvious, it would have hurt less.) A Passage to India is difficult. Chewy. I've only read it once.

I don't suppose your store has the lending-out benefit that mine does? We employees can borrow two books at a time for a duration of two weeks, so long as we return them in saleable condition. Unfortunately I do not get this benefit for another two weeks. The Management says that it wants us to keep abreast on literature in general, and since inter-library loan in my town is slow like dial-up internet (ONLY WORSE), I am overjoyed, if somewhat overwhelmed with options.

and we supposedly do have something of the sort! at least, it was mentioned in the information packet they gave me, but i've yet to hear anything abt it on-site. i am going to have to inquire, i think. but it is such an exciting prospect!
(my own quote-unquote woe is that the library branch i go to is a whole TWO STOPS away on the subway, which in my book (see what i did there?) makes it a capital-t trip & thus not one to be undertaken all that frequently, esp. as it necessitates a repeat excursion to return things.)
...and i have totally talked too much, as i am prone to doing on the internet, and will be shutting up now. :D
