so i'm sitting in a random little starbucks like five blocks away from my house, wearing one of the more random ensembles i've put together lately-yellow-orange t-shirt, short-ish grey skirt with pockets, super-cozy black cardigan from salvation army, peacock-blue tights & various items of hipster-esque jewelry-and simon & garfunkel's "bridge over ( Read more... )

god i love simon and garfunkel. there is something so melancholy and poignant about their harmonies; it makes you feel like you're flying.

i need more people like you in my life. i feel calmer after reading this entry than i have all day.

oh man comments. so lovely to get, so hard to reply to!

but yeah, i'm glad i could help. ♥ the nicest moments so often go unrecorded, it seems to me, because they're the simplest, so you don't get tangled up in them as much-but they're if anything more important in the balance of things. not to mention, journaling is so much more rewarding when you're reliving something happy. *contented cat face*

(...and ahaha, self, regurgitating those positive psych lectures much?)

I used to listen to Simon and Garfunkel in 9th grade too. But.........that was 33 years ago. I didn't realize they had survived1. I don't listen deliberately to Simon and Garfunkel these days, but I still appreciate their music when I hear it. And I love the Bangles' cover of "Hazy Shade of Winter." I think they found something in the song that must have been there all along but wasn't clear in the original version.

1. They had already been broken up several years by the mid-70's, but their music was still pretty fresh. It never occurred to me that people would still be listening to it a third of a century later2.

2. Cool, I didn't realize I could put footnotes in comments. But is there any such thing as a footnote to a footnote?

These are my favourite kinds of days. (Also: it is really splendid to meet the world when dressed admirably. *nods* And! Skirts with pockets! How delightfully useful!)
