i just read an awful play... just AWFUL. it's called "butterflies are free" by leonard gershe. don't read it, it's really annoying and stupid and unrealistic, but i'm so desperate for a comic monologue that i might use one from the beginning that was pretty good, but i probably shouldn't do something from a play i really don't like... but it ( Read more... )

really? i havent read the whole play but a bunch of people have done the scene where the girl leaves the blind guy to go live with "rolf" in my theater class, and i always thought it was pretty good.

"love me or hate me, but don't leave because i'm blind and don't stay because i'm blind."

"you know, i feel sorry for you. you know why? because you're emotionally retarded. you know that? i'd rather be blind."

"people think just because we're blind we can see everything."

maybe it's just better when you see it performed. that does sound kinds cheesy written out.

it's not even that it's corny! the plot is just retarded. the mother character is so badly written and just irritating, she makes me wanna pluck my eyes out and if you know what happens the moment before that moment you described which is the final scene... it just makes no sense, THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN!!!!! just annoyed me. that's all. ;o)

and how are you, my darling?

there were some funny lines though! i.e. : "i never trust anyone above 30th street". :P

:( bad plays make me sad. i think you should do something from avenue q. not that there are many momologues or anything, but because i am still obsessed with the play and johnny tartags, well, you can follow my train of thought there. some guy i've befriended here at fsu named cory is obsessed with the play "the last five years". everytime he drives me anywhere he makes me listen to it. that's all i have to say about that. anyway - good luck with monologuing and interviewing and all that jajajajazz. i have physics for film later today with my crew. coolness, of course. i'm hungry. mad love.

sweetheart, i can't do something from avenue q, there's nothing there for me to do, it's not age appropriate and it needs to be from a plaaaaay. not a musical. well. not necessarily. one of my monologues last year was from a musical. but it had a really great script. anyway. not the point. last five years is one of my favorite shows ever, cathy is one of my dream roles... big ups to cory, tell him i say word... and i'm no shiksa goddess! he'll get it. ;o)

I would try something Chris Durang. Everything he writes is comedy and some are very good, some are very over done - but look incase you haven't

i actually did something by him last year. it was hard to deal with. he's one of my favorites, but nothing is really age appropriate. thanks for the tip though.

Did you try 'dentity crisis?
