i haven't written in quite a while (thank you, captain obvious), but-- and i hope i'm not jinxing anything by writing this--soon i should have both the time and inclination to write all sorts of stuff, including why i haven't written in some time ( Read more... )

I still wouldn't buy her smokes. By buying her cigarettes, it's like saying "it's ok to smoke while pregnant, I support it." and that's not how you feel, you might not stop her, by not buying her cigarettes, but at least you aren't approving of her decision. I would take her out to dinner or buy her a present (other than Cigs) but, I definitely wouldn't buy her smokes. -- that's my 2 cents anyway.

Do I have this straight: the individual in question is pregnant with her fourth child, can't afford five bucks, and the thing that would make her most happy in the world is cigarettes? Um, what? Well, ok, whatever, but I can't believe you're even asking this. Why don't you go ahead and buy her a cocktail too? 'Cause if she's the sort of person who says, "Oh, I went ahead and endangered my unborn children and they turned out fine!" she'd probably be happy to drink it.

Sheesh.

her husband got robbed-- held up at gunpoint and then run over with the car-- seriously-- and therefore isn't working at the moment, so they're a little short on cash for junk like that (cigarettes in canada are about ten bucks. yeah, it's a deserved tax on being stupid, but still), but are otherwise set for, like, heat and bread and a house and such. i don't agree with her particular choice of indulgences, but, you know, i don't agree with violent criminals mowing down friendly acquaitances of mine.
bunch of savages in this town.

and here I thought you snarky canadians didn't HAVE guns, unlike us/we maniac americans. i'm sorry to hear about your friend's misfortune and i'm sure it's a stressful time for her, but i still insist that you'd be helping her get/stay addicted, which would be bad enough if she weren't pregnant but quite immoral since she is. buy her some other indulgence. like a david sedaris book, or a prenatal massage, or pretty spring flowers, or take her kids to the park for an hour or two so she can go windowshop alone. lots of fun and relaxing things to do that don't compromise the health of a fetus.

Oh, p.s., that was Erika. Quit fretting about Miss Smoke while Pregnant, whoever she is, and answer my email.
