It's so cold, it's like the cold if you were dead

Do you ever rediscover a record and get completely obsessed with it again? A few weeks ago I wanted to hear "Disintegration", which I really had not listened to in years, and now I'm listening to it again. With maybe the exception of "Pretty Hate Machine", I don't know if any other record was ever more "my teen angst bullshit has a body count" ( Read more... )

I know what you mean. I do that from time to time too- rediscover old albums I used to love.

I was never a Cure freak either. It was always more about Depeche Mode for me. I loved Disintegration though. It's an almost perfect album. I'd go so far as to say it's better on the whole than any of DM's albums. Hard to compare the two bands, but generally, there really isn't a DM album I can listen to straight through (except maybe Exciter oddly enough, I know I'm weird). Not even Violator, which I've always thought was a bit overrated. Only in the past five or six years have I really given the Cure's back catalogue much attention, but I'm glad I did. Pornography, Faith and Seventeen Seconds are all pretty damn excellent.

Props for the Heathers reference :)

I totally understand where you're coming from.

Smashing Pumpkins "Siamese Dream" is that record for me. Almost forgot it existed after I graduated college, then "rediscovered it" about 2 years ago and listened to it nonstop for about a month and a half straight.

You're right about Distintegration - "Love Song" gets way too much attention and I always skip that track.

My strongest memory of that album was listening to it for the first time in my car while I was helping my sister evacuate Charleston, South Carolina right before Hurricane Hugo hit. The music in "Prayers For Rain" still bring back the memory of seeing those unusual clouds that only a tropical storm can produce. I also think of that when I hear the lyric "swimming the same deep water as you is hard." Rock 'n roll.

You're not alone with the Michael Jackson thing. Just appreciate being diverse. Check out my journal - I blog about The Mars Volta and Nine Inch Nails and then turn around and blog about George Michael and Diana Ross. It's all good.

I just recently started going through the whole Front Line Assembly catalogue. I was aware of them, but didn't follow them too much back then. Now I'm making up for lost time.

Yes, having diverse taste in music or just liking a lot of different music can confuse people. I think this has really scared some guys away.

The thing about having heard so much music is you tend to forget about things. I listened to Front Line Assembly in high school, but I haven't really listened to them in years.
