That sounds like an excellent example of maintaining personal boundaries! Great job.
I sure agree that there's some double standards out there. Speaking as a white male ... we suck. And what's the difference between a bitch and a byotch? I've never had the subtle implications explained.
And what's the difference between a bitch and a byotch?
The former is a derogatory term, someone who's not just assertive but also aggressive, inconsiderate, disrespectful, probably has poor judgment, doesn't remember to call her mother on Mother's Day, gives cheap fruit cakes for Christmas presents, and is likely a royal tease and gets off tormenting men (and lesbians) sexually.
The latter, however, is more the term of self-empowerment and self-respect. It's still recognizing that some behaviors are likely to frustrate or anger other people, but without the negative connotations associated with the original term.
At least, that's my understanding of the difference, based on how I've seen/heard the terms used.
Good on you for standing your ground. I know you've talked before about how that's been a struggle for you in the past.
Even better on you for having done it well.
You're only a "bitch" if your assertiveness gets in the way of someone who's expecting you to roll over and spread 'em at the first command. The rest of us, those with what I hope is some wisdom and respect, just get the idea that you're doing what anyone else.....any man....would do in the same situation and recognize that's cool. It's what SHOULD be normal.
I sold off the last of my IRA mutual funds this week; turned it all into money markets for the time being. My reasoning was exactly the same as yours; the market is too unstable right now. I don't need to watch my IRA lose 40% of its value on top of yankee tenants who won't keep their word. I'll convert my 401k to all money markets next week.
Good for you!! I would also consider getting a different agent. If you don't have a comfortable relationship with her, it's going to be difficult trusting her. Trust is a biggie here.

And apostate does a great job of describing the difference.
