While I think it's a good idea to moderate the amount of sugar intake for children, I think it's better to keep an eye on the consumption of HFCS: high-fructose corn syrup. I watched my sister in restaurants giving her youngest daughter packets of sugar to eat to keep her happy. Early onset diabetes, anyone?

Eat what you want, you're an adult. Myself, I make a small attempt to stay away from HFCS (we pronounce it hiffcuss) and ingredients that are difficult to pronounce or more than two or three syllables.

My mother did more than moderate the amount.... she read books like "Diet for a Small Planet" and was quite fanatical on the subject of Bad Processed Food for her children. It's that fanaticism that bothers me more than the lack of sweets when I was a child. I was probably the only child in my elementary school who knew what "Tiger's Milk" was (and what carob tasted like ( ... )

There's an old saying, "Abstain from wine, women, and song. But mostly song." Works for me!
