I can self diagnose myself with a lot of things, doesn't mean it's true. Honestly, with those criteria, I do too. I was in gifted and took AP classes, I'm relatively intelligent. I still do have an advanced vocabulary and had one at an early age. I'm not really that adept with socializing. I DEFINITELY have the most random and persistent obsessions. I sometimes lack common sense. I'm often self-centered. I'm louder than necessary sometimes. Ha, where do I begin with the eccentric.
Ta da, I have Aspergers.
I'm not saying you or I don't, but I wouldn't use it as an excuse for anything.
"People with AS lack the natural ability to see the subtexts of social interaction, and may lack the ability to communicate their own emotional state, resulting in well-meaning remarks that may offend, or finding it hard to know what is "acceptable"."
I totally do that ALL the time, and I fit the description of a lot of the other things too. I'm half scared now.
i'm going to get it checked out of course, and seek treatment as well.
thanks for the advice about not becoming the disorder. of course i've already dealt with this sort of a situation with my tourette's and ADHD. so i don't think i'm making too big a deal out of this. i just felt like telling people i guess.
:) thanks for the advice, and i know you know what your talking about. i'm glad you responded to this.
Hey, I randomly came across this post and felt the need to comment. I am a medical student, and although this in NO way makes me an authority, I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. I learned about Asperger's last year...its falls under the same umbrella as Autism. Asperger's is a pretty extreme disease, and usually the obsessions aren't periodic. The obsessions are very involved, i.e. a child that literally talks 24/7 about washing machines...and nothing else..EVER. It is usually diagnosed in childhood and it is VERY obvious - you or your parents would have noticed it a long, long time ago. But of course, if you have serious doubts, by all means get it checked out! Good luck.
