Money can't buy you love but lack of it can sure as hell guarantee you misery

My brother in-law, Bob, is lying in a hospital bed dying. He can't walk more than a few steps and he needs help doing basic things like going to the bathroom. All his internal organs are failing. He's had jobs spraying pesticides, smoked all his life. There's a history of drug addiction. He's on 25 different meds. My Pop is trying to ( Read more... )

I concur with Moe. It's rough to witness the slow and icky end of any life, but when it's like that..... that's really rough.

As for the Surf n Turf --- ?? I don't know - I guess to each his own. I'm not a surfnturf person, but i think maybe I'd go with Sizzler over Red Lobster (not a fan), but that's just my opinion. ugh. Good luck - this sounds really challenging.

It's not actually. At least not yet. I have no relationship with my sister, really. I'm sure it will be stressful to head over there after he dies. But what are you gonna do? It's not like i manufactured this dysfunctional family. I just find much of my family completely foreign to me sometimes. I think that's fairly common though. And now that you mention it - I'd go for peanut butter and chocolate chip pancakes from Its Tops Coffee Shop, no question.. by the way, if anyone is expereriencing painstakingly slow family deaths, I highly recommend watching Larry David as an antidote. That guy is brilliant --

oh god! actually, i've already done that! the whole turning to larry david thing. i compulsively and almost, well - emotionally desperately in a way - netflixed all the curb your enthusiasms and had to watch them repeatedly, with commentary and without, over and over again a hundred times. he is quite brilliant! damned - if i only burned dvds!

and yay omg yeah yah for peanut butter and chocolate chip pancakes! I might even go for a peanut butter and chocolate crepe thing, with icecream, whip cream, and Friendly's peanut butter sauce (back east crack thing)...

That sounds so sad, it makes me want to cry. I smoke, too, as you know and to excess so I know how he must feel. And I'm heavily medicated, too. But...I'm not dying a slow death from the inside out. You and your family have my sympathies.

P.S. Chocolate chip pancakes sound yummy. I don't know what surf n turf is.

I'll start with 'I'm sorry' because I am sorry that there are people like this anywhere, let alone in a friend's family.

I'll finish with saying once again that I love how you write.
