I have been having a bit of a swelling of remembering why I love canon so much and this meme made me catalyse some of my thoughts about it, having seen some interesting insights in other people doing it!
I do think he has a sort of brasveness - I think he needs to to live his life, and he did a lot for the order (such as looking into werewolf packs etc which is pretty hardcore). In fact, I think he has a lot of the gryffindor hard-headedness and recklessness, he's just usually quieter than some about it.
I haven't thought about Lupin in a while, it's interesting to consider him with closed canon.
I just really, really, don't like the idea. I've probably read some, because I've read a lot of fic over the past 6.5 years, but I avoid it as much as possible.
I like that you say you don't understand why it skeeves you. I mean, maybe you're a Snarry fan, but I think it's totally understandable to be skeeved by a teacher/student pairing where the student, for much of canon, clearly trusts and worships the teacher.
*is ardent Snaco fan*
I like Lupin too, I didn't think he was OOC in DH at all. That said, I understand why big Lupin fans were upset, because we didn't see him get a good fight in to sort of redeem that moment.
