Mail Strikes

Oh why don't the postal workers just piss off and grow up?

The Royal Mail needs to modernise and move with the times, because at the moment it really does not serve its customers very well. Oh, but no, we don't like change. We're not supposed to actually serve the customers. Fuck off.

The intersting thing being that it used to give a service which was the envy of the world.
Then it got privatised, given unnecessary competition, and spent £2billion changing its name to Consignia and back again.
Interesting how privatisation seems to make all services that much worse.

Privatisation doesn't make all industries worse, but when applied to certain businesses it really does do more harm than good.

The problem with the Royal Mail is that its management were slow to recognise the changing nature of the traditional postal business, and the workforce as represented by the unions have either not recognised it at all or have willfully stuck their heads in the sand in a bid to ignore it (I'm honestly not sure which) and are trying to treat the business more like a job creation scheme.

I find it difficult to think of a perivatised company which actually provides a better, cheaper service with equivalent or better customer service than it did when national.
Trains have gone to hell, back would require a return ticket.
British gas spends 10% of the pre-privatisation amounts on pipe safety. The gas showrooms which used to allow a person to pay their gas bills, are now closed or selling electrical stuff, and no you cannot pay your bill there. You can buy your electricity from British gas though. Because that makes perfect sence. (Yes I know that looks like a typo.)
The privatised water companies charge what they want for whatever level of service they choose not to provide, and they have a complete monopoly on their areas so there is bugger all the customer can do if they want a water supply.
Which companies have actually worked privately? I really can't see any plusses.
