Radio 2 boss quits over call rowI'm going to express what is possibly a contraversial opinion. I don't think that Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross should have been suspended over this situation over the phonecalls to Andrew Sachs. Nor do I think Brand should have had to resign, or the Radio Two boss ( Read more... )

The tabloids have revealed themselves to be a bunch of muckraking sensationalist cunts.

In our other top story, the Pope has been outed as Catholic.

Film at 11.

Yeah, it's hardly surprising is it? What sticks in my craw though is that two people, possibly three, have had to resign from their jobs when they needn't have.

But again, the tabloids like to do that too.

They won't sack Ross - he's too popular. Brand is expendable .. Ross is (was, in the short term at least!) more highly respected, and people like my granny think he is a nice good looking young man (although she reads the mail, so maybe not ;) )

I think you're right there, actually, about them not sacking Ross. It's a pity Brand had to go though, as it was Ross who started it off by shouting out "He fucked your granddaughter". But then I still blame the Daily Mail. :D

Jonathan Ross vs the Daily Mail - To be honest, I think that mutual destruction would be by far the best possible outcome.

The Daily Mail is the greater of two evils though. What with them loving Hitler and everything.

Personally I havn't read much about it, don't intend to (which sadly includes 90% of your post).

Personally I find neither of them at all funny, and whatever joke played (from the miniscule amount I do know) in poor taste.

Equally I think the main reason for the ho-ha is that the papers have only 2 other major stories to run: The Economy (Shit) and The US Elections (Really Shit).

Hence we get nicely blown out of all rational proportion willy-waggling. Let the idiots apologies, send a nice christmas hamper to the offended souls and get on with whatever they actually do.

They've already done that, and Sachs has graciously accepted. Sadly 2 people have now been forced to resign from their jobs and one has been placed on 3 months' suspension, none of which was necessary.

Frankly I think prank calls are the most moronic thing ever - obscene or not - so I don't have any sympathy for them.
