Since the movies have messed with the timelines/characters of the comics, I’ve decided that I'm allowed to make my own modifications (i.e., write fanfic!). This was based on
this prompt (
Strong enough to carry him... )

This is gorgeous and beautiful and I humbly request more pls?
I can totally feel Alex's frustration manifesting itself in that he can't control his powers. Charles is so understanding and mentor-y in this too, you can totally see his older self peeking through. He's sobered up and is really taking his students under his wing.
And Alex. Oh, my soul, Alex. He's so angry and hurting and he feels so helpless, which big brothers never let themselves feel.
Those last fourish lines jumped by heart up into my throat. Oh gosh, I'm rereading them now and they are so powerful.
Seriously, please please continue this. It's amazing, I'd love to see where Scott really is and their reunion. Please!

I'm glad all the different facets of the characters came through and that it didn't seem too flat. I was worried it was too dialogue heavy... but the emotional undercurrents felt much more tangible when they were unsaid.
Yes, Prequel!Charles is well on the road to becoming full-fledged Professor X! Alex and the rest of the kids are going to give him plenty of chances to practice.
The last couple of lines were probably the first I wrote. The rest of the fic was the build up to get to them. Unfortunately, I don't have plans to continue this fic (at the moment). I was struck by an inspiring prompt and I hadn't thought beyond that. Still, I'm glad you've enjoyed the fic (and flattered you'd want more)!
Thanks again for the lovely comment!

It was very difficult to capture their emotions so I'm glad to hear that they left an impression! There are some many different layers to each character's feelings. Charles is hurt by Alex's words but also upset that his student is suffering. At the same time, he is feeling powerless to help because Alex won't confide in him (and that is stings too). It was really hard to convey all of that while maintaining Charles' calm facade. I'm glad you found the writing compelling!
I don't have plans to continue at this time. But I really appreciate your comment (and that you'd want me to continue)! Thank you!

Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you enjoyed it... even if it was a little sad (if it helps, in my head, they meet up and, after some obligatory reunion angst, they all live happily ever after).
