I only just realized reading over my comment that it sort of sounds like I'm orgasming. I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT I TOTALLY ORGASM OVER YOUR WRITING. But, it's just that, my comment was me panicking because oh god Iker and Cesc and they think El Barca knows and they're going to go with it even though IT'S TOTALLY STILL A SECRET and why didn't Affeley just say Pique told him to call and OH MY GOD WE'RE ALL GOING TO GET EATEN ALIVE BY ZOMBIES. Well, maybe not the zombies part. BUT THE REST OF MY PANIC IS REAL. Zomg.

oh my god let's be honest I would build a house out of copies of that magazine and live in it. forever.

yesss that is totally the dynamic I was going for -- that Iker is trying so hard to be all noble. and at the same time he's...not always succeeding. like i think, in that line, he is making a choice (even if it is mostly subconscious) to say "please" rather than "please don't." HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS BUT GOD DAMMIT HE IS NOT MADE OF STONE.

anyway. i am really glad you liked it! :D

Can Stevie and Xabi just adopt Cesc, please? It's like watching parents who strain to not argue in front of their kids and then fail miserably.

Seriously, this fic has turned me into an obsessed fangirl. You had me hunting down every last bit of old interviews, game highlights and compilations from back in ye olden days when Xabi was in Liverpool. I watched like three different versions of the Istanbul final. That's a full nine hours of my life right there, man.

"The engraved X rubbed against his fingers." -- Why is that so sexy to me? Why? And your description of Stevie's smile. Guh. His smiles are likes sunshine and puppies.

Also I think Pepe may be my favorite minor character. His ability to steal the scene when he's not even in it amazes me. Yay for more future Pepe!

And now you've made me ship Iker/Cesc - two people I've never given a moment's thought about before apart from what they do on the pitch. And they're suddenly all attractive to me now. What. is. this.

afjkdsahkjf they would be the WORST PARENTS ON THE PLANET, can you imagine. they would just squabble and glare and radiate weird sexual tension and it will be DEEPLY TRAUMATIC for poor cesc. He deserves better!!

OH MY GOD BUT THAT ISTANBUL FINAL, I BET YOU DON'T REGRET A MOMENT OF IT, DO YOU and in fact now that you have brought it up I might go watch one of those montages set to "Hoppipolla" that are all over youtube. I have a lot of feelings about that game, ok.

afhjdskfds Pepe is like. ok so clearly I am sexually obsessed with Xabi, and Stevie is not far behind. But if a genie were to appear in front of me and say "you can spend the rest of your life with one footballer, who would it be" I would say Pepe Reina in a hot second. and not just because his doppelganger Stanley Tucci was my first crush. I like that he can be both hnnnnngh and hilarious:

GUESS WHO HAS TWO THUMBS AND DIDN'T GET HIT BY A CAR? THIS GIRL! THIS GIRL ALSO ROCKED A MIDTERM TODAY, SO HAVE A CELEBRATORY EXHAUSTIVE REVIEW, BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T THINK THE LAST ONE WAS CREEPY.

When I saw "2000" in the first part, I was sure that it was a typo. But then! WEE LITTLE BB XABI AND STEVIE! And Xabi is so...idk if hesitant is the right word? Tentative? Whatever, he's really fucking young and you can just tell in the way that makes me think of older workaholic Xabi and just ache because I know some of his hard edges are from growing up, but at least some of them are from Stevie and the choices he felt he had to make to turn him into the man who would tell Iker he isn't a particularly happy person ( ... )

I was actually so busy mooning over the first section that I was like BAM! HIT IN THE FACE! with the second section, which actually worked very nicely. Because I am terrible at dates, I wasn't sure how much time had passed since the Barça meeting so I had this terrible moment of fear that Cesc was going to be trapped by reporters somewhere and that Iker's Senate run was over and I maybe got a little sad. Maybe.

“Trust me, Cesc,” Xabi said. He touched his forehead for a second. His fingers, he noted distantly, were shaking a little. The tension ramps up so so well in this, and it's weird because I was just as pathetically grateful as Cesc that Xabi maintained control, but of course I was also aware at how fragile that control was. I felt like my heart was going faster in sympathy. The part in the bathroom was almost physically painful, because he needed a breather so badly and who shows up? Steven Fucking Gerrard. I would like to know how Pepe taught Stevie and Xabi that pennies trick, though ( ... )
