writing to music? ALL THE TIME. Or the x-files. writing to the x-files is brilliant until you realise you've written poltergeist instead of pachycephalosaurus and then it just gets sad.
I have playlists for each story. endless endless playlists. or if I'm writing fic, I have my OTP playlists. PLAYLISTS ALL THE TIME. I swear I spend more time tailoring my playlists than I do actually writing the things. On occasion I've sat at the piano, composed and recorded themes for the story I'm currently writing. I think I'm a bit mad.

dude, i TOTALLY feel that "tailoring playlists to all otps" thing. generally i do it as a form of hideous procrastination and it takes, like, months. and then i save them on my computer under totally transparent "code names" so that anyone who looks at my itunes is like "what is this playlist called 'istanbuuuuul' that has no turkish music on it?" and then i cry and hide. the writing music thing is beyond my ken, though -- that's impressive!

I am so glad I'm not the only one who does the code name thing! Aaah, composing is one of the few things I do half-well, so I use it wherever possible. I'm totally not one of those people who plans eeeeverything in stories, including the background music and concept art etc. I'm a bit mad.

I will listen to music while writing sometimes, but I usually only make playlists for actual epics, like Big Bangs. I had two different drafts for my recent footie big bang, no lie, and I had a playlist for each one in a futile attempt to keep myself sane and to prevent myself from tossing my laptop out the window.

What I learned: my iTunes library is remarkably light on what you could think of as vampire songs. I ended up listening to a lot of Florence and the Machine, not to mention having Poe's Haunted on repeat for AGES.

Also, dude a fic that is over 20k? How how HOW have we not seen any of this yet?
