The original Sondheim score is usually done in a far more operatic style, and has even been adapted for Opera companies to perform. Which is why the success of Depp and the other untrained singers is so interesting. Of course, Sondheim himself said that he'd rather have an actor trying to sing than a singer trying to act.

A fun thing I plan to do when I watch the movie again. Close your eyes during the final song with Depp and Rickman...and imagine it's Captain Jack and Severus Snape singing about pretty girls.

*grins* That sounds fun --I'll have to do it next time.

Or maybe just do it with the music...ohyeah. I knew there was a REASON I bought the soundtrack.

I was pretty disappointed with I Am Legend. The main reason I didn't like it was because I read the book first, the book being a classic of science fiction and much darker and realistic in tone than the movie. The movie stayed good as long as the focus was on Will Smith's day to day struggle for survival/the cure, but as soon as the plot thickened it just became a bad action movie with some unnecessary characters and subpar CGI monsters. The book's ending (and the explanation for the title) was much more satisfying.

Yeah, I've heard that if you read the book first you'll be disappointed, but if you just take it on its own, it's good in its own right.

Eeeee, Sweeney Todd!

I loves me some Sweeney Todd like woah, and I will definently reccommend seeing any version of the musical, if you get the chance.

*has nothing else constructive to say*
