People need to celebrate flowers as much the rest of the year as they do that one special day, I think. Everyone I passed seemed to be carrying a bouquet. Such a marvelous excuse to carry roses everywhere; if only I could get away with it the rest of the year

cutting them off,
thrusting them into an unnatural and aversive environment
and squealing excitingly at first sight only to forget to water them for a few days and find them dead afterward
