Oh, interesting idea ! Wilson's approach to the cancer has certainly been different from what you might expect, it's almost like he has been expecting the worst from the outset, maybe untreated depression could leave to this viewpoint. Whether it does or not I like this story, with House probing further to find the truth.

Different is an understatement, I think, especially for the casual viewer who might perceive Wilson to be just a foil to House's character - the honest, kind, perfect doctor we all want.

The House of old definitely would have probed into why Wilson is behaving so bizarrely! But I can accept him not doing so because he's trying to be there for Wilson and is afraid to push him too hard or drive him away when he knows they might have a limited time left.

I love this. Perfectly in character, for starters, and it would sure make sense out of so much of Wilson's passively-suicidal behavior.

I just rewatched some old eps with my friend and I honestly cannot understand who those two men on my screen are. Passively-suicidal is the perfect way to describe this whole thing. Though I wonder if the writers are trying to bring across the idea that he has no fighting spirit (thus giving up at stage II) or are just screwing up the medicine.

I don't think this makes sense. Wilson does not seem depressed (more than he ever was, incontent with life and burdened by it and his job). The way he articulates his wishes are not depressive. The way he acts is not depressive. If he was, he wouldn't have gone the route of horror-chemo and afterwards on a idiotic tour into whatever (the last episode still makes absolutely no sense to me).
And actually, looking back over the years the anti-depressants did not work for him anyway (as they don't do for most people - there are new studies out that they actually never worked at all as prized. Glorified placebos nothing else. With very bad side effects by the way. Most make you impotent on top of the rest of insults. If Wilson took them while in a relationship, well it had been a very plantonic one with Amber and Sam...).

I think depression is manifested in different ways for different people. I have a friend who was upbeat and cheery, doing volunteer work with disadvantaged youth and just having everything going right for her. It was shocking when she revealed to me and a few other close friends that she was seeing a psychiatrist and was starting anti-depressants.

I think Wilson is a very private man who doesn't reveal much of his true self in public. He might seem like a great doctor who genuinely cares for his patients, but he does seem to have a dark side that he suppresses and sometimes comes out with House. Three failed marriages, one terminal cancer patient fling, one dead girlfriend, and another who left him; guilt about Danny. He's lonely.

But thank you for your comment. I do see where you're coming from.

As someone currently on her third round of antidepressants, and the first one that seems to work. IAWTC.

Whether or not this is a plausible explanation (what do I know? haha), I really loved this piece. It's perfectly IC, with just the right amount of emotion peaking through. They say so much to each other in such simple words - beautifully done.
