I'm stopping by the library after work to drop a few books off, and I would love some recommendations from you lot as to what I ought to read next! I really want something I can lose myself in, that'll keep my attention and make em squeal with giddiness. Or something scary! Or... anything, really.

I don't know if your library will have it, but Robertson Davies wrote a delightful collection of ghost stories called "High Spirits," all of which are set at Massey College at the University of Toronto. They range from scary to hilarious, and my personal favorite is "The Ugly Spectre of Sexism."

Black Dagger Brotherhood. They've got it all - vampires, excitement, tension, sex, slash, more sex, gorgeous men, laughter, tears, joy, death, love, love, love and very good baddies. REad them in order.

If you've not read Westerfeld's Leviathan trilogy, you're missing out. Those books make me happy. So does Harrison's Hollows series. And Butcher's books.

I love Scorpio Races by... gah, what's her name. Her books are good. Um.

McKinley's retold fairy tales and such are excellent.

I have a ton more. But yeah. Let me know if you want more.

Those all sound good! I have to go back to the library tomorrow (I forgot two books that also needed to be dropped off), so I'll see if I can find one or two of those. I ended up getting Patrick Ness' A Monster Calls, but it's only going to last me so long :)

If you want something un-put-down-able, I highly recommend the Liaden universe books by Sharon Lee & Steve Miller. The series is a mix of background-standalones, and the mainline series which is knuckle-biting "what do you mean I have to wait for the next book?" adventure. It's been described as a cross between James Bond, Georgette Heyer and Star Wars, though I'd say that the "James Bond" aspect is more in the mainline series than the background books. What do I mean by "background books"? I mean books that flesh out the background of the universe and characters, that are usually only one book or a pair of books. That isn't to say that there isn't peril or adventure in them, but the pace is less frenetic than in the mainline sequence. Different books focus on different characters as their main characters ( ... )

I miss you!! I'm going to try to send 31 postcards this month, so keep your mailbox checked. I don't read a lot of spooky stuff, but I'm about to read Gone Girl, I can't remember if you've read it? The movie comes out next week. It's a mystery about a married couple, the wife goes missing, and I think the story is told split between the POV of the husband, and the past journal entries of the missing wife. It supposedly had a crazy surprise ending, which they actually rewrote for the movie. Anyway, I haven't read the whole book yet, so if you hate it I'm sorry. I can vouch for the writing, which is surprisingly good
